The qualifying deadline for a special election for Warren County coroner passed with the interim coroner filing to make it a two-person race.
Larry Chisley, 54, owner and operator of Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home, has joined the race against Doug Huskey, 48, an employee of Glenwood Funeral Home.
The post was vacated with the death of John Thomason, killed in a July 22 wreck off U.S. 61 South. He was 48.
The remaining qualifying deadline for this election year is Oct. 6 for the post of District 2 Trustee of the Vicksburg Warren School District board. The deadline to qualify for that election was previously reported as Sept. 8.
The general election is set for Nov. 7.
Incumbent Zelmarine Murphy has been the only one to file papers for the school board post. Murphy, the longest-tenured member of the board, is seeking her fourth six-year term. She ran unopposed in the 2000 election.
The position pays $2,400 a year. Terms for the five members of the board of trustees are six years and are staggered to prevent a completely new board. The race for the District 2 seat is the only school board election set for Nov. 7. Qualifying papers and instructions are available from the Warren County Circuit Clerk’s Office.
Other members of the school board are Jerry Boland, District 1; Betty Tolliver, District 3; Jan Daigre, president, District 4; and Tommy Shelton, District 5.
Also on the ballot are elections for nine other county, district or federal offices including all or part of Warren or area counties.
