Virginia Anderson

Virginia Anderson died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2007, at her home in Vicksburg. She was 99.

A homemaker, Mrs. Anderson was a member of Mount Calvary M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Anderson; six brothers, Charlie Hall Jr., Percy Hall, Stacey Hall, Henry Hall, Eugene Hall and Alex J. Hall; and two sisters, Stella Hall and Frankie H. Jones.

She is survived by a daughter, Mary Ann Anderson-Bosley of Virginia; three sisters, Christine Jackson and Gloria F. Cooper, both of Vicksburg, and Shirley Hall of Detroit; two grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Lauren Nicole Clanton

Services for Lauren Nicole Clanton will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Triumph Church with the Rev. Mike Fields officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at Glenwood Funeral Home.

Lauren died Friday, Feb. 2, 2007, at Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital in Jackson. She was 14 months old.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Phillip Clanton; her paternal great-grandfathers, G.W. Fields and Elbert Cockrell; and her maternal great-grandfather, Lorraine Castor.

She is survived by her parents, Scott A. Clanton and Virginia Ginny Clanton, both of Vicksburg; a sister, Natalie Clanton of Vicksburg; her paternal grandmother, Sheree Clanton of Vicksburg; her paternal great-grandmothers, Grace Fields and Margaret Cockrell, both of Vicksburg; her maternal grandparents, Everett and Mary Dickson of Vicksburg; and her maternal great-grandmother, Erma Castor of Vici, Okla.

Pallbearers will be Rusty Geter and Brian Wells.

Honorary pallbearers will be Blake Hayes, Kevin Hayes, Dr. Deborah Smith and the staff at Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital, River Region Medical Center and Triumph Church.

Speler Assaf Farris

Speler Assaf Farris died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2007, at Heritage House. She was 98.

Born in McComb, Mrs. Farris had been a Vicksburg resident most of her life. She was the daughter of Ellis and Esma Assaf.

For a number of years, she owned and operated Crystal Pharmacy Drug Store with her late husband, N.J. Farris, and, in later years, owned and operated Colonial Discount Drugs with her son-in-law, the late James V. Tuggle Jr.

She was a member of the Church of the Holy Trinity, Episcopal.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Sylvia Farris; two sisters, Romey Assaf and Sybil Kalil; and two brothers, Tom Assaf and Foet Assaf.

She is survived by a daughter, Linda F. Tuggle of Vicksburg; one son, Joseph Wayne Farris and his wife, Cordelia, of Vicksburg; two grandchildren, Jody Tuggle and his wife, Rhonda, and Jimmy Tuggle, all of Vicksburg; three great-grandchildren, Speler Montgomery and her husband, Jerry, Michelle Tuggle and Daniel Tuggle, all of Vicksburg; one great-great-grandson, Gage Laird of Vicksburg; and a brother, Woodie Assaf of Jackson.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Church of the Holy Trinity, Episcopal, with the Rev. Michael Nation, rector, officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Riles Funeral Home.

Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at McInnis Parish House at the church.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Montgomery, Tommy Assaf, Jerry Abdallah, Freddy Abraham, Ricky Hartzog and John Ellis Solomon.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. W. Briggs Hopson, Dr. Daniel Edney, Joe Gerache and Joe Gerache Jr.

Annie Marie Johnson Green

Annie Marie Johnson Green died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. She was 52.

Mrs. Green worked as a contractor for Waterways Experiment Station in Vicksburg. She was a member of Seventh Day Adventist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman &#8220Bay” Green; her parents, Elmer Johnson Sr. and Elvia Burnett Johnson; and a brother, Ernest Johnson.

She is survived by two daughters, Alexis Green and Erika Green, both of Vicksburg; and a brother, Elmer Johnson Jr. of Vicksburg.

John Pate

John Pate died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2007, at his home. He was 78.

Mr. Pate was a resident of Vicksburg.

Karla Forbes McDaniel

PURVIS – Karla Forbes McDaniel died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2007, at her home in Purvis. She was 46.

Born in Columbia, Mrs. McDaniel was a former Vicksburg resident, where she was supervisor of the Catalog Department and assistant manager at J.C. Penney.

She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas B. Forbes Jr.; and a brother, Pat Forbes.

Survivors include her husband, Ricky McDaniel; her mother, Marguerite Cotton Forbes of Columbia; three brothers, Thomas B. Forbes of Boston and Michael Forbes and Jeffrey Forbes, both of Columbia; and an uncle, Gordon Cotton of Yokena.

Memorial services will be later.

Thomas Leon Thompson

Thomas Leon Thompson died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2007, at his cousin’s home in Vicksburg. He was 63.

A lifelong resident of Vicksburg, Mr. Thompson was the son of the late William McKinley and Susan Jane Flannagan Thompson. He worked as a supervisor with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for 30 years. He was also a carpenter, hunter and fisherman. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Thompson of Vicksburg; three sons, Tommy Thompson, Bubba Thompson and Bill Thompson, all of Vicksburg; a daughter, Linda Cole of Vicksburg; four brothers, Gene Thompson of Vicksburg, Harold Thompson of Monroe, Herman Thompson and Earl Smith, both of Huntsville, Ala.; 25 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends, including Mary Jane Wooten of Vicksburg.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Fisher Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Greg Clemts of Southside Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Edwards Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Ollie Thompson, Roy Thompson, Taylor Thompson, Heath McDuff, T.J. McDuff and Roger McDuff.

Honorary pallbearers will be Lee Brown, Tyler Sullivan, Zack Sullivan, Brandon McMahon, Bobby Moore and Danny Falhstron.
