Johnny L. Baldwin Sr.

Johnny L. Baldwin Sr. died Saturday, March 17, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. He was 69.

A U.S. Navy veteran, Mr. Baldwin retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Mat Sinking Unit. He was a member of Cool Springs M.B. Church.

He was preceded in death by a son, Melvin Epps.

He is survived by four sons, Johnny L. Baldwin Jr. of Dallas, Michael Baldwin and Patrick Baldwin, both of Chicago, and Toney Baldwin of Vicksburg; a daughter, Mary Baldwin Cotton of Greenwood; his parents, Elijah Baldwin and Ethel Myles Baldwin, both of Vicksburg; two brothers, Robert Baldwin of Vicksburg and Elijah Baldwin of Greenwood; a sister, Ethel Baldwin Dixon of Vicksburg; grandchildren, a great-grandchild, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Freddie M. Bell

Freddie M. Bell died Saturday, March 17, 2007, at River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg. She was 85.

A homemaker, Mrs. Bell was a member of Cool Springs M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Lee Nix and Ledora Harris Nix; two brothers, Otis Nix and Roscoe Nix; a sister, Mary Jessie Chambers; and a son, Laddie Nix.

She is survived by a son, Junior Nix of Vicksburg; four daughters, Ruthie Mae Hudson, Ledora Nix and Shirlene Nix, all of Vicksburg, and Beatrice Ellsworth of Greenville; two brothers, Henry Lee Nix Jr. of Ohio and Willie Nix of Vicksburg; 32 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great grandchildren.

James Arthur Gilmore

EDWARDS – James Arthur Gilmore died Saturday, March 17, 2007, as a result of drowning. He was 34.

A self-employed farmer, Mr. Gilmore was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Gilmore Sr. and Mary Julia Pollard-Gilmore.

He is survived by two sons, James Arthur Gilmore and Kenneth Neal Blackmore, both of Vicksburg; two brothers, John Maurice Gilmore Sr. of Edwards and John Henry Gilmore of Chicago; two sisters, Leonna King of Edwards and Johnnie Mae Davis-Gilmore of Indianapolis; and grandchildren. Rebecca H. Strickland

Rebecca Strickland died Saturday, March 17, 2007, at Shady Lawn Nursing Home. She was 45.

Born in Brandon, Mrs. Strickland had been a resident of Vicksburg most of her life. She was a member of the Vicksburg Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Pete G. Strickland; and her father, Clois Hill.

She is survived by two daughters, Rebecca Rice and Karah Strickland, both of Vicksburg; her mother, Doris Pace of Hamburg, Ark.; four sisters, Michelle Roberts and Ejett Bergeron, both of Hamburg, Wanda Hoover of Pelahatchie and Barbara Sorrels of Pattison; one brother, Eddie Hill of Hamburg; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Riles Funeral Home Chapel with Paul Gant officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon Tuesday until the hour of the service.

Pallbearers will be Bon Bergeron, Michael Sorrels, James Michael Strickland, Jeremy Strickland, Spencer Harrell and A.C. Harrell.
