Helen Price Cox died Wednesday, May 2, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. She was 69.

A homemaker, Mrs. Cox was a member of Zion Travelers M.B. Church and Order of Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jasper Sr. and Emma Neal Price; her husband, the Rev. Elbert Cox Sr.; a son, Michael A. Cox; one brother, Jasper Price Jr.; and a sister, Ruby Gaskin.

Survivors include four sons, Elbert Cox Jr., Melvin H. Cox, Percy E. Cox and Scottie J. Cox Sr., all of Vicksburg; two daughters, Lisa Cox Shelton and Velma Cox Rankin, both of Vicksburg; a brother, the Rev. Simon Price of Greenville; six sisters, Carrie Lee Taylor and Cedella Williams, both of Utica, Amy Flagg of Edwards, Sadie Chillis of Greenville, Barbara Marshall of Aurora, Ill., and Bertha Gibson of Fayetteville, S.C.; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Lillian Kamylle Dale

THIBODAUX, La. – Services for Lillian Kamylle Dale will be at 2 today at First Baptist Church in Rolling Fork.

Lillian died Sunday, April 29, 2007, at University Medical Center in Jackson. She was 3.

She was born on April 13, 2004.

She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Lillie Anne Dale.

She is survived by her mother, Angela &#8220Sissy” Dale of Thibodaux, La.; grandparent, Roger Dale; great-grandmother, Ava Dale of Rolling Fork; uncles and aunts, Michael Dale of Vicksburg, Scottie Dale of Rolling Fork and Roger &#8220Snook” and Krystal Dale of Atlanta; cousins, Neelie Anne Dale of Lake Village, Ark., and Ava Ray Dale of Vicksburg.

George Grayer Sr.

Services for George Grayer Sr. will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Kings Community Empowerment Center with the Rev. Charlie Blackmore officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

Visitation will be at the Kings Center Saturday from noon until the service.

Mr. Grayer died Sunday, April 29, 2007, at his home. He was 76.

Mr. Grayer was retired from Bunge and the Vicksburg Warren School District. He was a member of St. James M.B. Church on Pearl Street.

He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Grayer; two sisters, Lillie Parker and Melvina Summers; and grandparents, Rosetta Harris and Wilson Phillips.

Survivors include five sons, Donnell Grayer and Mickey Grayer, both of Seattle, Wash., George Grayer Jr. of Joliet, Ill., Thomas Grayer of Newport News, Va., and Roosevelt Bailey of Vicksburg; four daughters, Rosetta Noble and Ida Allen, both of Vicksburg, Annie Nelson of Leesville, La., and Antoinette Hoye of Brandon; two stepdaughters, Gladys McElrath of Joliet and Vergie Thompson of Indianapolis; and grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives, including members of the Sullivan, Phillips and Barber families of Vicksburg.

Elena Palmer Liggins

Services for Elena Palmer Liggins will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at New Mount Elem Church. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. Friday at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home.

Mrs. Liggins died Friday, April 27, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. She was 78.

She had served as a deaconess at Holy Cross M.B. Church and worked as a custodian for the Vicksburg Warren School District.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Louis Liggins Sr.; her parents, Shelby and Lena Wilson Palmer Sr.; four brothers, Ellis Palmer, Shelby Palmer Jr., John Palmer and Cleveland Palmer; four sisters, Ora Palmer, Lilia Palmer-Carpenter, Martha Palmer Davis and Senola Palmer Huell; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.

She is survived by four sons, Edward L. Liggins Jr. and Joe M. Liggins, both of Vicksburg, and Bill N. Liggins and Shelby D. Liggins, both of Jackson; one daughter, Lena Liggins-Hicks of Vicksburg; a sister, Olivia Palmer of New Orleans; and a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Marvin M. Mills Sr.

LAKE PROVIDENCE – Marvin M. &#8220Papaw” Mills Sr., age 88, of Lake Providence, La., died peacefully at his home on Monday, April 30, 2007.

He was born Oct. 16, 1918, in Tyronza, Ark., to the late William Phylander Mills and Oma Ester Mills. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and an avid Saints fan.

Marvin was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Mary Goree Mills.

He is survived by his children, Jackie Kowitz and husband, Carl, of Tallulah, Kathy Dunn and husband, Andy, of St. Francisville, La., Marvin Mills Jr., and wife, Karen, of Nixa, Mo., and Vicki Mills of Delhi; his sweetheart, Margaret Crowe of Bastrop, La.; and a sister, Ruth Head of Okeechobee, Fla.

&#8220Papaw” will be greatly missed by his grandchildren, Dr. Andrew &#8220Terry” Dunn and wife, Katie, of Hamden, Conn., Jimmy Lowitz of Tallulah, Sherman Mills of Nixa, Lori Dunn of Baton Rouge, Holli Dunn of St. Francisville, and Kristy Richart and husband, Sam, of Nixa; as well as by his great-grandchildren, Alexander and Emma Dunn of Hamden, and Logan Richart of Nixa.

Visitation will be from 4 until 8 tonight, May 3, 2007, at Cox Chapel Funeral Home in Lake Providence. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Paul Ninemire officiating. Burial will follow at Providence Memorial Cemetery.

Nancy P. Pitchford

Nancy P. Pitchford died Tuesday, May 1, 2007, at her residence. She was 68.

Born in Coffeeville, Miss., she was the daughter of the late Wilbourn Elverton Pharr and Ollie Sue McCormick Pharr.

Mrs. Pitchford had been a resident of Vicksburg since 1951. She was a graduate of Hinds Junior College, Delta State University and Mississippi College where she received her master’s degree.

Mrs. Pitchford taught the Gifted Curriculum at Jett Elementary School and Bowmar Magnet School. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma. She was an avid gardener and a world traveler.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, where she served in the nursery department for a number of years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Ann Pharr Greer.

She is survived by her husband, Sam T. Pitchford of Vicksburg; three daughters, Susan K. Gram and Renee Pitchford, both of Atlanta, and Keira Windels of Dallas; a granddaughter, Sarah Kathleen Gram of Atlanta; four sisters, Martha Rose Pharr Rule and Kathleen Pharr Knighton, both of Vicksburg, Linda Sue Pharr Chappell of Venice, Fla., and Wanda Eloise Pharr Cook of Arlington, Va.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church with Dr. Matt Buckles, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Green Acres Memorial Park under the direction of Riles Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday at Riles Funeral Home and 10 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church until the hour of the service.

Pallbearers will be Ronald Landry, Brandon Landry, Justin David Cook, Robin Knighton, Mak Knighton, Jamie Greer, Bobby Pharr and Larry Pharr.
