Leroy Rogers Allen
Leroy Rogers Allen died Tuesday, June 19, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. He was 52.
Employed with Ballground Plantation, Mr. Allen was a member of Mount Zion M.B. Church at Ballground.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Allen Sr. and Annie Bell Allen; and a brother Robert Allen Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Idella Allen of Redwood; three sons, Leroy Rogers Lewis and Anthony Lewis, both of Redwood, and Marcus Bass of Tallulah; three daughters, Nickole Tucker of Tacoma, Wash., Freda Tucker of Indianapolis and Wendy Bass of Tallulah; four brothers, five sisters, numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Bobbie Bumpers
OXFORD, Ala. – Bobbie Bumpers died Friday, June 15, 2007, in Oxford, Ala. She was 47.
Mrs. Bumpers was reared in Vicksburg.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leon Sr. and Alberta Turner; a brother, Luther Turner; and a sister, Shirley Turner.
She is survived by her husband, William Bumpers; two daughters, LaTasha Bumpers and LaTrise Bumpers; four brothers, Eddie Turner, Leon Turner Jr., James Turner and Melvin Turner; and five sisters, Sherri Turner-Sharp, Ella Smith, Patricia Clark, Lois Perkins and Franklin Robertson.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Oak Ridge Baptist Church in Anniston, Ala., with Pastor Torail Jackson officiating.
Visitation will be from noon until 8:30 p.m. Friday at Goodson Funeral Home in Anniston.
Eddie B. Foster
Eddie B. “Doc” Foster died Monday, June 18, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. He was 86.
A U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, Mr. Foster retired as a maintenance supervisor from Waterways Experiment Station. He was a member of Vicksburg Consistory No. 110 and Paragon Lodge No. 7 F&AM, where he served as past master. He served as a deacon at St. Mark Freewill Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Cora Belle Foster; his parents, Willie and Theresa Foster; a daughter, Mary Fletcher; and a sister, Willie Mae Bridges.
He is survived by his wife, Leahrene Cartwright Foster of Vicksburg; and a daughter, Yvonne Foster Williams of Vicksburg; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Horace Turner
Horace Turner died Sunday, June 17, 2007, at Claiborne County Nursing Home. He was 85.
Mr. Turner was a retired certified nursing assistant from the Veterans Administration Hospital in Chicago. He served in the Army during World War II and the Korean War. He was nondenominational.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Fannie Turner; four brothers, Charlie Turner Sr., Zack Turner, Evains Turner and Ugena Phelps; and four sisters, Melinda Gibson, Lillie Mae Turnipseed, Julie Windom and Mary Hampton.
Survivors include four sons, Benjamin Earl Turner of Chicago, James Horace Turner of Hudson, Wis., Horace Talton of Memphis, Ariz., and the Rev. Jimmy Ellis of Port Gibson; three daughters, Judy Gannon and Karen Goodpastore, both of North Chicago, and Robin Gissindina of Alabama; five sisters, Johnny Lee McCay of Pattison, Elizia Marbra of Hermanville, Ester Reeder of Port Gibson, and Mary J. Taylor and Inez Washington, both of Chicago; nine grandchildren; nephews and nieces, including his caregiver Mildred Hedrick of Pattison; and other relatives and friends.
