Top-ranked Puckett, the defending Class 1A state champions, is well on its way to a repeat and on Friday they added St. Aloysius to its list of victims.
The Wolves took a 20-0 lead into halftime, then returned the opening kickoff of the second half for a touchdown to dash any thoughts of a Flashes’ upset in a 40-6 victory. Last season, Puckett defeated St. Al 69-7, but the Flashes hung tougher in this one.
Matthew Willis scored the first of his three touchdowns in the first quarter and Bobby Williams threw one touchdown and added another rushing to lead Puckett’s offensive attack. Williams’ 6-yard TD run in the second quarter gave the hosts the 20-0 lead.
Jeremy Palmer scored on an 85-yard kickoff return to start the third quarter and Willis added a 17-yard touchdown run as the Wolves built a 34-0 lead.
St. Al quarterback Chris Lewis scored on a 1-yard keeper for the Flashes’ only points. Willis ended the scoring with a 65-yard TD run in the fourth quarter.
The Flashes will be at home next week for homecoming against Pisgah.
