The “Gridiron Gold” book tour comes to Vicksburg for a book signing Sunday afternoon at Lorelei Books, 1103 Washington St., at 2 p.m.

Former Warren Central head football coaches Robert Morgan and Lum Wright will be on hand for the book signing as the tour makes its stop in Vicksburg. During the past week the authors and publishers of “Gridiron Gold” have been doing a book signing tour throughout the state.

“The book is already in its third printing and it just came out in October,” said David Hutzel of Omega Group Publishing. “The book signings in Jackson have been a tremendous success.”

“Gridiron Gold” is a collection of stories from Mississippi’s rich history of high school football as told by former coaches such as Morgan and Wright. Former coaches Willie Young and current Collins High coach Bruce Merchant and Oxford High coach Johnny Hill will be in Vicksburg, along with one of the writers, Mike Frascogna Jr.

“They say Mississippi is one the top state’s in the nation for high school football and this book is an appreciation of the coaches,” Morgan said.

“It has a lot of amusing stuff in it. Like the story Willis Wright told about how he went about picking his offensive and defensive linemen. When he went into his locker room, the ones that had messy lockers were put on defense and the ones that had clean lockers, those guys went on offense,” Morgan said.
