Thelma Ree Jackson Barber
Thelma Ree Jackson Barber died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2007, at her home in Vicksburg. She was 82.
Mrs. Barber was born in Hinds County to Johnny and Emma Jackson. She attended the Southern Christian Institute in Edwards.
She was a member of Ebenezer M.B. Church, where she was in the choir for a number of years and served as secretary. She was a member of Silver Moon Chapter No. 41 of Eastern Star and was retired from the Vicksburg Warren School District.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Edna Earl Jackson Funches and Esther Lena Jackson; and two brothers, Hermale Jackson and Johnny Jackson Jr.
Survivors include one daughter, Margaret Jackson Johnson Richardson of Vicksburg; two sons, James A. Jackson of Vicksburg and Tyree Jackson of Los Angeles; five sisters, Maggie Fields of Vicksburg, Lula Mae Cooper of Utica, Marie Clark of Los Angeles, Paulette Bills of Chicago and Johnnie Mae Essex of Saginaw, Mich.; two brothers, Russell Jackson of Memphis and the Rev. Eddie Jackson of Saginaw; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; her caregiver, Annie Ruth Johnson; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives, including members of the Allen, Cooper, Fields, Davis, Williams and Jackson families.
Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Roberta Brice
CHICAGO — Roberta Brice, formerly of Vicksburg, died Friday, Nov. 2, 2007, in Chicago. She was 49.
Mrs. Brice was a 1975 graduate of Vicksburg High School. In 1982, she moved to Chicago.
She is survived by three sisters, Mary Erlene Lewis, Diane Brice and Ida B. Green of Seattle, Wash.; two brothers, Ozie Brize Jr. of Chicago and Willie James Brize of Bolton; nieces; nephews; cousins in Vicksburg; and friends, including Bryant Williams of Chicago.
Burial was Nov. 13 under the direction of the House of Branch Funeral Home in Chicago.
Shirley Jackson Brown
HERMANVILLE — Shirley Jackson Brown died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2007, at University Medical Center in Jackson. She was 50.
Mrs. Brown was a member of Mount Burner M.B. Church.
Survivors include her husband, Johnny Brown of Hermanville; two sons, Johnny Brown Jr. of Vicksburg and Steven Brown of Hermanville; two daughters, ShKisha Wildee of Jackson and LaSonda Brown of Hermanville; her mother, Edith M. Jackson of Hermanville; six brothers, Leo Jackson and Lucious Speed, both of Hermanville, and Jerry Jackson, James Jackson, Ronnie Bailey and Calvin Bailey, all of Vicksburg; seven sisters, Dora Mac Jackson of Los Angeles, Daisy Johnson and Mary A. Johnson, both of Hermanville, Flora Tarleton of Port Gibson, Lethia Brandon of St. Louis, Mo., and Ernestine Reid and Lena Mae Canaga, both of Vicksburg; 15 grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Services will be at noon Saturday at White Hall M.B. Church in Pattison with the Rev. Ray Coleman officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 until 6 today at Thompson Funeral Home in Port Gibson and Saturday at the church from 11 a.m. until the service.
Mary C. Douglas
Mary C. Douglas died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. She was 86.
Mrs. Douglas retired from Magnolia Hotel and Maxwell’s Restaurant. She was a member of King David M.B. Church No. 2.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Douglas Sr.
She is survived by three sons, Roosevelt Douglas, William Bell Douglas Jr. and Ernest “Grit” Douglas; three daughters, Mattie Wilson, Janie Douglas and Hattie Douglas; three brothers, Alexander Curry, Harry Curry and Johnny Curry; two sisters, Anna Taylor and Kathleen Curry; and 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and other relatives.
Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Leahrene Davis Foster
Services for Leahrene Davis Foster will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Mark’s Freewill Baptist Church. Burial is at 11 a.m. Monday at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 until 7 p.m. Saturday at Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home. Family will be present at 6.
Mrs. Foster died Monday, Nov. 26, 2007, at the Claiborne County Nursing Center. She was 79.
Born in Hinds County, Mrs. Foster was a member of St. Mark Freewill Baptist Church, where she served on the mother board and in the choir.
She was a member of American Legion Tyner-Ford Post 213 Women’s Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Foster; her parents, John Miller Davis and Leah Jacob Davis; and three brothers, John M. Davis Jr., James Alfred Davis and Dudley Davis.
She is survived by a stepdaughter, Yvonne Foster Williams of Vicksburg; a sister, Ruth Davis Robinson of Bolton; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Robin Oglesby
Robin Oglesby died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2007, at her home in Vicksburg. She was 47.
Miss Oglesby was born in Hattiesburg and had lived in Vicksburg since 1965. She was a student at MIDD-West and participated in Special Olympics. She was a member of First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Frank and Myrti Oglesby and Hilton and Esma Fairchild.
She is survived by her parents, Bob and Patricia F. Oglesby of Vicksburg; one brother, Norman F. Oglesby of Jacksonville, Fla.; one sister, Amy O. Jones of Mandeville, La.; and other relatives, including Brent Jones and Reece Jones.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Providence Baptist Church of Franklin County with Dr. Matt Buckles officiating. Burial will follow at Providence Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at Glenwood Funeral Home and Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until the service.
Pallbearers will be Monte Redditt, Doug McCoy, Daniel Oglesby, Keith Oglesby, Roger Ratcliff and Walker Jones.
Clara Ruth Perry
Clara Ruth Perry died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2007, at her residence. She was 67.
Born in Shaw, Miss., she had been a resident of Vicksburg for the past 10 years.
Mrs. Perry was the daughter of the late Robert Lee Milan and Vesta Louise Hearld Milan. She was a member of the First United Pentecostal Church.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Ann Perry.
Mrs. Perry is survived by her husband, Jimmy Perry of Vicksburg; daughter, Jeddie Ruth Campbell and her husband, John, of Stonewall, La.; three sons, Jimmy Perry Jr. of Vicksburg, Stanley Perry and his wife, Melina, of Cleveland, Miss., and Jamie Perry and his wife, Haley, of Brandon; two sisters, Martha Hamilton and Syble Greer, both of Cleveland; three brothers, Bobby Milan, Ricky Milan and Doyle Milan, all of Cleveland; eight grandchildren, Michael Campbell, Audrey Campbell, Matthew Campbell, Lacey Perry, Richelle Ricotta, Haley Ricotta, Austin Perry and Seth Muzzi; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were at 11 a.m. today at the Pace Pentecostal Church in Pace, Miss., with the Rev. Ed Hall and the Rev. Donald Tipton officiating.
Alexander Shaun Thompson
PORT GIBSON — Alexander “Shaun” Thompson died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2007, at his home in Port Gibson. He was 33.
Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife, Dorothy Lee Thompson of Mobile, Ala.; his parents, Roosevelt and Ruthie McDaniel Thompson, both of Port Gibson; two brothers, Nathaniel Thompson and Roosevelt Thompson III, both of Port Gibson; his paternal grandmother, Dorothy Newton of Port Gibson; two sons, Alexander Thompson of Port Gibson and Stefan Thompson of Mobile; two daughters, Chastity Thompson and Samantha Boyd, both of Mobile; and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Sunday at Rising Sun M.B. Church in Port Gibson with the Rev. Larry Clark officiating. Burial will be at Scott’s Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home.
Visitation will be at the church Sunday from 10 a.m. until the service.
Jessie Wells Jr.
HERMANVILLE — Jessie Wells Jr. died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. He was 81.
Mr. Wells is survived by his wife, Annie Jackson of Hermanville; two sons, Howard Jackson and Bryant Jackson, both of Hermanville; two daughters, Freddie McReynolds of Port Gibson and Vera Martin of Hermanville; two brothers, Willie Wells and Leroy Wells, both of Minneapolis; two sisters, Nellie Tillman of Columbus, Mo., and Hazel Veal of Victorville, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including Amos Hill and Early Wells of Hermanville.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church in Hermanville with the Rev. Johnnie Hughes officiating. Burial will follow at St. Phillip’s Cemetery in Hermanville.
Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. Saturday at Thompson Funeral Home in Port Gibson and Sunday at the church from 1:30 p.m. until the service.
Corine Wheeler
Services for Corine Wheeler will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Greater Mount Zion M.B. Church with Pastor Gregory Butler officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 until 6 today at Williams Funeral Service and Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until the service.
Mrs. Wheeler died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. She was 58.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Corine Polk and John Ross; a sister, Roberta Nason; and a brother, William Barcus.
A homemaker, Mrs. Wheeler was a member of Greater Mount Zion M.B. Church.
She is survived by two sons, Willie Wheeler Jr. and Jerry Wheeler, both of Vicksburg; two daughters, Brenda Williams of Vicksburg and Gloria Royal of Jackson; four brothers, Jimmie Lee McClung of Germany, Johnell Ross of California, Otis Ross of Vicksburg and Tommie C. McClung of Florida; a sister, Ollie Mae Harris of Vicksburg; and other relatives, including Artis Williams, Celestine Ross and Tommieceina Harris, all of Vicksburg.
Dorethea Washington Williams
PORT GIBSON — Dorethea Washington Williams died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2007, at her home in Port Gibson. She was 45.
Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Dorothy Hedrick Washington.
She is survived by her husband, Lamonica Williams of Port Gibson; three sons, Devin McDonald, Adrian McDonald and Sherod McDonald, all of Port Gibson; three brothers, Henry Watson of Chicago, Frank Washington of Denver and Donald Washington of Port Gibson; five sisters, Mary Miller, Edith Caples and Shirley D. Hedrick, all of Vicksburg, Frances Washington of Port Gibson and Constrilla Washington of Hazlehurst; three stepsisters, Charlene McDonald of Fayette, Zenia King of Port Gibson and Catherine Clark of Red Lick; two stepbrothers, James McDonald of Red Lick and Harvey McDonald of Memphis; her stepmother, Ella Washington of Red Lick; one granddaughter; and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including Barbara McComb and Gale Holt-Ellis of Port Gibson.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Rose Hill Christian Church in Lorman with Elder Walter Chambers officiating. Burial will follow at Tillman Chapel Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 until 6 today at Thompson Funeral Home in Port Gibson and Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until the service.
