Thelma Ree Jackson Barber
Services for Thelma Ree Jackson Barber will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home with the Rev. David Brown Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with family present from 5 until 6.
Mrs. Barber died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2007, at her home in Vicksburg. She was 82.
Mrs. Barber was born in Hinds County to Johnny and Emma Jackson. She attended the Southern Christian Institute in Edwards.
She was a member of Ebenezer M.B. Church, where she was in the choir for a number of years and served as secretary. She was a member of Silver Moon Chapter No. 41 of Eastern Star and was retired from the Vicksburg Warren School District.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Barber; two sisters, Edna Earl Jackson Funches and Esther Lena Jackson; and three brothers, Hermel Jackson, Johnny Jackson Jr. and Robert Noye.
Survivors include one daughter, Margaret Jackson Johnson Richardson of Vicksburg; two sons, James A. Jackson of Vicksburg and Tyree Jackson of Los Angeles; five sisters, Maggie Fields of Vicksburg, Lula Mae Cooper of Utica, Marie Clark of Los Angeles, Paulette Bills of Chicago and Johnnie Mae Essex of Saginaw, Mich.; two brothers, Russell Jackson of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and the Rev. Eddie Jackson of Saginaw; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; her caregiver, Annie Ruth Johnson; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives, including members of the Allen, Cooper, Fields, Davis, Williams and Jackson families.
Roosevelt James
Roosevelt James died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2007, at Shady Lawn Nursing Home. He was 86.
Mr. James was a member of The House of Peace Worship Church. He retired from Cooper Lighting in 1981.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lyas and Eliza Gibson James; a son, William James; six brothers; and three sisters.
Survivors include three daughters, Geneva King of Huntsville, Ala., and Linda James and Regina Howard, both of Vicksburg; two sons, Aaron James of Jackson and Andrew James of Vicksburg; numerous grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Beulah Marion
EAST CHICAGO, Ind. — Beulah Marion died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2007. She was 84.
Mrs. Marion was born in Vicksburg to the late Minnie and Willie Terry and had lived in East Chicago, Ind., for a number of years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Marvin Marion; two brothers, Wardell Terry Sr. and John Terry; and a sister, Dorothy Ray.
Survivors include a daughter, Paulette Marion; three sisters, Ruby Lee Smith of Franklin Park, Ill., Eunice Lewis of Vicksburg and Wilma White of Edwards; one brother, James Kelly of Los Angeles; two grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Hinton-Williams Funeral Home of East Chicago has charge of arrangements.
Ernest L. Mathes
Ernest L. Mathes died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. He was 75.
A native of Louisiana, Mr. Mathes had lived most of his life in Vicksburg. He was a member of Redbone United Methodist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie and Lucille Mathes; three brothers, Percy, A.T. and Harvey; and three sisters, Doris Mathes, Helen Woods and Evelyn Price.
Survivors include two sons, Ernest “Roy” Mathes and wife, Lisa, and Edward Mathes and wife, Georgia, all of Vicksburg; three daughters, Neda Day and husband, Bert, and Tammy Faye Evans and husband, Ricky, all of Vicksburg, and Karen Redden and husband, Robert, of Utica; three brothers, Jessie Mathes Jr. and Robert “Sonny” Mathes, both of Vicksburg, and Paul Mathes of Clinton, La.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Ronnie O’Quinn officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 9 a.m. Friday until the service.
Active pallbearers will be Johnnie Knight, Roger Dixon, Ray Mathes, John Mathes, John Hilderbrand and Mack Fuller.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Stanford, Bud Shiers, J.W. Wright, Danny Smith and Dan Ross.
Marion Wallace
CHICAGO — Marion Wallace died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2007, in Chicago. She was 72.
Mrs. Wallace was a Jehovah’s Witness. She was a factory worker for 35 years at Simpson Die Cast in Chicago before retiring.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Curtis and Rodie Wallace of Edwards; four sisters, Marcella Dixon, Catherine Anderson, Ora Carter and Ruby Carson; and eight brothers, Curtis Wallace Jr., Alonzo Wallace, Earnest Wallace, Eugene Wallace, Arthur Wallace, Ambus Wallace, Limmie Wallace and Ozzie Wallace.
She is survived by a son, Villyon Christopher Turner of Chicago; a brother, Clifford Wallace of Chicago; and nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Taylor Funeral Home LTD of Chicago has charge of arrangements.
Elizabeth Ware
Services for Elizabeth “Lizzie” Ware will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Locust Grove M.B. Church with the Rev. Walter Weathersby officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from noon until 6 p.m. Friday at Robbins Funeral Home and Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until the service.
Ms. Ware died Monday, Dec. 3, 2007, at Promise Specialty Hospital. She was 87.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mamie Ware; a son, James Ware; and four brothers, Eddie Ware, John Henry Ware, Willie Ware and Jessie Harris.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary Ware and Gloria Ware, both of Vicksburg; a son, Robert Ware Sr. of Vicksburg; three brothers, Johnny Ware of Dallas, Ales Ware of Chicago and Ray Ware of Kingston, N.C.; two sisters, Ida Price and Mary Handy of Vicksburg; 30 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; 21 great-great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives, including Alisha Roberson, Alice Ware, Lewis Wilkes and Lucille Ross.
