Robert Griffing

Robert Griffing died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2007, at the G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center in Jackson. He was 79.

A retired staff sergeant with the U.S. Marine Corps, he was a member of Utica Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Eugene Griffing and Gladys Inez Echols Griffing; and one brother, Perrin Griffing.

He is survived by a brother, Glynn Griffing of Jackson; and two sisters, Laverne Matthews of Fannin and Frances Beasley of Fayetteville, N.C.

Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the service Monday. Burial will follow in Green Acres Memorial Park Cemetery in Vicksburg.

Memorials may be made to The Blair E. Baston Hospital for Children in Jackson.

Roosevelt James

Roosevelt James died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2007. He was 82.

Born in Carey, he was the son of Lyas and Eliza Gibson James. He was a member of the House of Peace Worship Church.

He was preceded in death by one son, William Earl James; six brothers, Lyas James, Thomas James, Silas James, William James, Robert James and Ollie James; and three sisters, Bernice James McGee, Elnora James Waiter and Annie James Douglas.

He is survived by his former wife, Geneva Richardson Johnson; three daughters, Geneva James King of Huntsville, Ala., and Linda P. James and Regina Howard, both of Vicksburg; two sons, Aaron C. James of Jackson and Andrew James of Vicksburg; 17 grandchildren; and great-grandchildren and other relatives.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home with the Rev. Linda Sweezer officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon until 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
