Gloria Lee Miller
Gloria Lee Miller died Monday, Dec. 10, 2007, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. She was 60.
A lifelong resident of Vicksburg, Mrs. Miller retired as a former school bus driver from the Vicksburg Warren School District. She was of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by her husband, William “Billy” Miller Jr. of Vicksburg; a son, Joe Miller; two stepsons, Shag Miller and Alton Miller, both of Vicksburg; two daughters, Mary Rose Miller and Nancy Smith, both of Vicksburg; her parents, William Horn and Virgie Nevels, both of Vicksburg; two brothers, James Horn of Utica and Jim Horn of Baton Rouge; two sisters, Audrey Peeples and Nancy Wooten, both of Vicksburg; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Glenwood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Roger Croswell officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Thursday until the hour of service.
Pallbearers will be Alton Miller, Shag Miller, Joey Smith, Justin Breland, William Day, Mark Lelonek, Bobby Miller and Rufus Nowell.
Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of Baptist Hospital and Methodist Specialty Care.
George Augustus Morris Jr.
ATLANTA, Ga. — George Augustus Morris Jr., age 76, of Atlanta, Ga., died unexpectedly in Highlands, N.C., on Dec. 10, 2007.
A native of Vicksburg, he was the son of the late Brig. Gen. George A. Morris Sr. and Mildred Martin Morris. George was a graduate of Georgia Tech, where he was an Academic All-American and a member of the 1952 National Championship team. Honors include the National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame, College Football Hall of Fame, Mississippi Football Hall of Fame, Georgia Football Hall of Fame and the Georgia Tech Hall of Fame. He represented Georgia Tech as one of the ACC Championship Football Legends for 2007.
A U.S. Army veteran, he served in Korea. In his professional career, he played for the San Francisco 49ers and was associated with the Georgia Power Company, the Royal Crown Cola Company, and George Morris and Associates. He was an official with the Southeastern Conference for 30 years. He was actively involved in the Chick-Fil-A Bowl and Scholar Athlete Selection Committee and the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Foundation.
George is survived by his wife of 55 years, Polly; and children, Sherilyn Jones (Austin) of Moorhead, Susanne Morris Meyer (Tom) of Atlanta, Gus Morris (Cheryl) of Cumming, Ga., Thames Pemberton (Marshall) of Atlanta and Thea Morris of New Bern, N.C. Grandchildren are Andy Jones, August and Susan Morris, John and Madison Pemberton and Austin Jessup.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Mary August Jones.
Additional survivors include his sister, Grace Morris Spears of Jackson; his brother, John Morris of Nashville, Tenn.; and nieces, nephews and other family members.
Visitation at H.M. Patterson and Son, Spring Hill, is 4-7 p.m. today. A funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, 2007, at Peachtree Road Methodist Church. The family will receive visitors in the narthex at 1 p.m. prior to the service.
The remains will be taken to Riles Funeral Home, 5000 Indiana Ave., Vicksburg, MS 39180 for a visitation Saturday from noon until 2 p.m. A private family interment will be held after the visitation.

David Sanders
David Sanders died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2007. He was 79.
Mr. Sanders was a deacon at Clover Valley M.B. Church. He was a retired farmer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fannie Gibson Sanders and Luchard Sanders; two sons, David Sanders and Michael Sanders; one daughter, Marchia Sanders; six sisters; and three brothers.
He is survived by his wife, Corine Sanders of Vicksburg; five sons, Adrian Sanders and Elza Sanders, both of Vicksburg, Lucious Sanders of Richmond, Calif., Cheynne Sanders of Weed, Calif., and Edmond James of California; two daughters, Deborah Anderson of Sacramento, Calif., and Daisy Reed of Vicksburg; one brother, Clarence Sanders of Rockford, Ill.; 20 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends, including Annie Taylor and members of the Gibson, Downey, Neal and Taylor families.
