Ocean Springs superstar wide receive DeAndre Brown on Friday committed to Southern Miss over LSU and this morning made it official.

The 6-foot, 6-inch Brown is regarded as one of the top wide receiver prospects in America. He earned Parade Magazine All-America honors and racked up 1,800 all-purpose yards for Ocean Springs last season. He is ranked as the No. 3 receiver by Scout.com and No. 4 by Rivals.com, both respected recruiting Web sites.

Brown is the biggest prize in what is expected to be one of the finest recruiting classes in Southern Miss history. Today marked the first day high school football players could officially sign to play at college next season. Junior college players were eligible to sign in December.

Warren Central product Otis Stamps, who spent the last two seasons at Hinds, signed with Louisiana-Monroe in December. Vicksburg High defensive back Delmon Robinson submitted his paperwork this morning with Miss. State.

Hinds’ Chris Mixon is expected to sign with Delta State today, and VHS receiver John Qualls is still considering Alcorn State, but may sign with Hinds.

Several signing parties are scheduled for this evening:

Mississippi State’s recruiting party is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the Bryan Athletic Administration building in Starkville.

Ole Miss held a recruiting party this morning, but Houston Nutt’s recruiting press conference will be available online at www.olemisssports.com

Southern Miss’ signing party is scheduled for the Lake Terrace Convention Center in Hattiesburg at 6 p.m.

Jackson State’s signing party is scheduled for The Bulldog on Ridgewood Road at 7 tonight.

Alcorn State fans will be meeting on the Alcorn State campus today at 4.
