Vicksburg man injured after losing control of truck on Indiana|[02/08/08]

A Vicksburg man with an apparent medical problem lost control of his truck this morning, crashing into a utility pole on Indiana Avenue.

Luther A. Newton, 38, 106 Bellaire Drive, was driving his Toyota pickup on Indiana near its intersection with South Frontage Road when the accident occurred, said Vicksburg Police Officer Penny Jones.

Indiana was closed to traffic while emergency personnel worked to help Newton and clear up live power lines.

Newton’s father, 74-year-old Luther B. Newton, was a passenger in the vehicle but did not appear to be injured.

County man bonds out after arrest for forgery

A Warren County man was released from Warren County Jail Thursday on forgery charges.

Frank Wilson Keen Jr., 34, 313 Keen Cole Road, was arrested at 2:32 p.m. Thursday at Rainbow Casino, Vicksburg police records show.

He was released on $2,500 bond.

Cash, electronics, jewelry missing in city burglaries

Two burglaries were reported to Vicksburg police Thursday.

Petty cash totaling $19 was reported missing at 1:24 p.m. from Satellite Video, 4714 U.S. 61 South.

About $800 in electronics and jewelry was reported missing from an apartment at The Crossings, 2160 S. Frontage Road, including an RCA 25-inch television, a Sony PlayStation 2, 11 DVDs, a camcorder, three diamond rings and four silver dollars.

City woman jailed for ‘rolling disturbance’

A Vicksburg woman was held in Warren County Jail Thursday following her arrest at Mission Park Drive and Mission 66.

Larissa Ellis, 30, 105 Athens Drive, was arrested at 9:25 a.m. on arrest warrants for aggravated assault and felony malicious mischief stemming from a report filed Feb. 1, Vicksburg Police Lt. Bobby Stewart said.

Ellis was accused by another woman of ramming her vehicle at the intersection, Stewart said, describing it as “a rolling disturbance.”

She was held on $10,000 bond.
