City man arrested, held for statutory rape|[02/12/08]

A Vicksburg man was arrested Monday and charged with statutory rape in an attack on a 13-year-old.

Ira Trent Woods, 47, 1315 Crawford St., was arrested at 4:03 p.m. at the Vicksburg Police Department on a warrant charging him with rape, Vicksburg Police Criminal Intelligence Analyst Suzan Ebeling said.

Woods was being held without bond pending his initial court appearance Wednesday.

Separately, Charles Johnson, 19, 1302 Spring St., was picked up by Vicksburg police at Wal-Mart SuperCenter, 2150 Iowa Blvd., and charged with felony shoplifting. Ebeling said Johnson was being held without bond due to being under indictment for another felony shoplifting offense.

Thousands of dollars in goods taken from home

Thousands of dollars in missing items were reported at a Warren County residence Monday.

At 11:57 a.m., the Warren County Sheriff’s Department received a report of a burglary in the 500 block of Fairways Drive. Missing was a 52-inch TV, a movie stand, a jewelry box, clothing, an Xbox and 10 to 15 Xbox games.

The total value was listed at $7,000.

Six burglaries reported to Vicksburg police

A purse, video game systems, car parts and jewelry were among the missing items in six burglaries reported to the Vicksburg Police Department during the weekend.

At 8:25 p.m. Friday, an auto burglary in the 1900 block of South Frontage Road was reported. Missing from the 1997 Chevrolet Suburban was a purse, valued at $25, containing $50 and other items.

Vicksburg Police Lt. Bobby Stewart said the vehicle was entered through an unlocked door.

A residential burglary in the 1300 block of Second North Street was reported at 7:10 p.m. Saturday. Missing was an Xbox 360 and 10 Xbox games. The total value was $800.

Four radiators and four convertors valued at $1,250 were stolen from R&C Auto Sales, 5800 U.S. 61 South. The business burglary was reported at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

Three rings, a Nintendo Ds and a PlayStation 2, total value listed at $1,380, were stolen from a home in the 2100 block of South Frontage Road. The burglary was reported at 2:45 p.m. Sunday. Vicksburg Police Lt. Bobby Stewart said there were no signs of forced entry into the home.

At 7:45 p.m. Sunday, a riding lawn mower was stolen from a home in the 100 block of Sky Vale Drive. The 13-horse Yard Man mower was valued at $869.

Two firearms, a .40 caliber pistol and a .45 Smith and Wesson, were stolen from a home in the 600 block of Hossley Street Sunday. The total value was $600. Police received the report at 8:45 p.m.

Stolen car recovered in about 30 minutes

A stolen vehicle was recovered Monday morning, about 30 minutes after the theft was reported.

At 6:24 a.m., police received a report of a 2000 Mercury Marquis being stolen from the 2500 block of Franklin Street. Then at 7, police recovered the vehicle at Dot and Rogers streets and returned it to the owner.

No arrest had been made.

Car vandalism reported on Hayes Street

The vandalizing of a vehicle was reported to Vicksburg police Sunday.

The felony malicious mischief in the 1400 block of Hayes Street was reported to police at 4 p.m. Damaged was the windshield, the hood and a rearview mirror. The vandalism caused $1,500 in damage.

Missing gun gone for year, owner says

A Warren County man reporting a missing firearm during the weekend said he hasn’t seen the gun in about a year.

At 8:25 p.m. Friday, the Warren County Sheriff’s Department received a report of a 9 mm semi-automatic pistol being stolen from a home in the 500 block of Oak Wood Drive. The value of the gun was listed at $475.
