Evelyn Nations Harris

Evelyn Nations Harris died Friday, Feb. 15, 2008, at River Region Medical Center. She was 88.

Mrs. Harris was born in Brookhaven and lived in Vicksburg for many years. She had retired from Vicksburg Hospital as a cashier. She was a member of The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Andy and Mary Agnes Nations; one sister, Lois Burton; and one brother, Ralph Nations.

Survivors include one daughter, Melissa Gunnerson of Richmond, Texas; one brother, Frances Nations of Pennsylvania; three sisters, Chris Thompson of Hattiesburg, Sylvia Kalous of Edwards and Majorie Holmes of Holly Springs; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Glenwood Chapel. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the service.

Margaret Mason Martin

Margaret Mason Martin died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008, at River Region Medical Center. She was 81.

Born in New Orleans, Mrs. Martin was the daughter of the late Guy Edward and Audrey Ann Patterson Mason. A former resident of Jackson, she had been a resident of Vicksburg for the past eight years.

Mrs. Martin was a member of Alta Woods Methodist Church in Jackson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Col. James Milton Martin; two sons, James Hunter Martin and Robert Michael Martin; and a sister, Louise Rosenbohm.

She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Peggy Holder and her husband, Billy, of Vicksburg; two sons, Guy H. Martin of Savannah, Tenn., and David B. Martin and his wife, Denise, of Reno, Nev.; nine grandchildren, Chad Holder and his wife, Rachelle, Julie H. Lewis and her husband, Howard, and Cory Martin, Michael Martin, Taylor Martin, Caleb Martin, Chynna Martin, Colin Martin and Culley Martin; one great-granddaughter, Peyton Holder; a niece, Karen Dearman; and a nephew, Karl Rosenbohm.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Mendenhall City Cemetery under the direction of Riles Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 2 until 4 p.m. Sunday at Riles Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Brad Reynolds, Troy Festervan, Howard Lewis, Cory Martin, Chad Holder and William Holder.

Memorials may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, MS Chapter, 1907 Dunbarton Drive, Suite C, Jackson, MS 39216.

Jefferson Eugene “BeBe” Prentiss III

CHICAGO — Jefferson Eugene “BeBe” Prentiss III, died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2008. He was 70.

A native of Vicksburg, Mr. Prentiss was a graduate of Bowman High School and Jackson State University. He was a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. and had served in the U.S. Army. He was retired from the Chicago Public School System and was a member of Christian Hope M.B. Church of Chicago.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jefferson Eugene Jr. and Hazel Prentiss.

Survivors include two daughters, Bonita Gail Prentiss-Ray and Hazel Lorene Prentiss, both of Chicago; three sisters, Hazel P. Holt of Chicago, Janelle P. Lee of Vicksburg, and Dr. Audrey P. Hindman of Silver Spring, Md; three brothers, Donald P. Prentiss and Arthur J. Prentiss, both of Vicksburg, and Benjamin M. Prentiss of College Park, Ga.; one grandson; and other relatives and friends, including Deloris Smith Prentiss of Vicksburg.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. today at Leak & Sons Funeral Home in Chicago wih the Rev. Jesse Wright officiating.
