Buccaneers cheerleaders hosting registration

Umpires needed for VWAA baseball

Umpires are needed for the upcoming Vicksburg Warren Athletic Association baseball season. For information, call Ricky Mitchell at 601-218-7700.

Adult softball registration

The Vicksburg Parks and Recreation Department will begin registration for the adult softball season on March 12. There will be men’s and women’s leagues, and teams can register until April 7. The registration fee is $200 per team, with an additional charge of $15 per Warren County resident and $25 for players from Sharkey, Issaquena and Claiborne counties.

Softball packets can be picked up at the Parks and Rec office on Army-Navy drive. A mandatory coaches’ meeting will be held on April 2 at 6 p.m. at the Parks and Rec office. All teams must have a representative at the meeting. For more information, call 601-634-4514.

Softball tournament scheduled for Jackson

The 4th Annual Raw Dawgs Classic is scheduled for March 22 at the VA Complex in Jackson. Cost is $200 for men’s teams and $175 for women. Deadline to enter is March 15. For information, call Clyde Harris at 601-661-6396 or 601-218-5184, or Pam Jackson at 601-415-0255.

Umps, scorekeepers needed for summer

The Vicksburg Parks and Recreation Department will be hiring part-time umpires and scorekeepers for adult and youth softball. Hours are between 6 and 10 p.m. every weekday. Some Saturdays may be available.

Interested people must have a driver’s license and transportation, knowledge of the game, be 15 minutes early for each game and umpires must have their own equipment.

Adalius Thomas camp set for Southern Miss

New England Patriots linebacker Adalius Thomas will host a football camp at Southern Miss on April 19 for boys ages 9-17. Camp registration begins at 8:30 a.m.

The camp is free. Campers must have a signed parental release before participating. Thomas, several NFL and Southern Miss players will lead the instruction.

East Mississippi Community College will host a football combine on Thursday at the Scooba campus. All players interested in trying out should bring workout gear, cleats, running shoes, a towel and high school transcripts to the school’s football fieldhouse.
