A month has passed without an arrest in the death and robbery of an Edwards man shot and killed near his hometown.
Separately, three shootings in February in Vicksburg remain unsolved.
“We’re still exploring leads, but unfortunately, nothing has resulted in arrests,” Hinds County Sheriff’s Capt. Steve Pickett said of the death on Feb. 11 of Larry Hunter, 48, 207 Williamson Ave. Hunter was found dead at about 9 a.m. that day with multiple shots to the back. The Cal-Maine Farms employee and father of three children was just blocks outside the Edwards city limits, on Mosley Drive near Mount Moriah Road.
Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham Stewart pronounced Hunter dead at the scene. His wallet and an undisclosed amount of cash were missing.
Pickett said Hunter was believed to be at the site checking on his horses. Pickett would not say who made the discovery of the body or who called 911. The shooting was believed to have occurred between 5 and 7:30 a.m.
Hunter’s sister, Teresa Hunter, who described her brother as a good person, said she is eager for justice to be done, but feels authorities are doing all they can.
“They’ve been very good about staying in touch with us and letting us know where things are, and we’re very grateful for that,” she said. “I think an arrest will be made sometime soon. Myself and the community hope one will come soon anyway.”
Teresa Hunter said she had “absolutely no idea” who would kill her brother.
Separate from the Edwards shooting death, Vicksburg police are looking to make arrests in three shootings.
At 10:22 p.m. Feb. 4, police responded to reports of gunfire in the 1100 block of Bowmar Avenue. There they found shots had been fired into an apartment and two vehicles parked nearby had been hit. No injuries were reported.
At 11:38 p.m. on Feb. 21, police were dispatched to the 200 block of Curry Street, where at least one shot had entered a home but no one was injured.
Then four days later, James Quincy Davis, 31, 3032 Wisconsin Ave., was found in a driveway with gunshot wounds to each of his legs. Davis was taken to University Medical Center in Jackson and has since been released.
In addition to being shot, Davis reported that $740 and a cell phone valued at $220 had been stolen from him.
Police said three hours later, a report indicated a .22 caliber revolver and $150 were stolen from the home where Davis had been found.
Darnell Davis, 34, 143 Demby Drive, whom Lt. Bobby Stewart said is not related to the victim, was arrested and charged with armed robbery and aggravated assault.
He surrendered Feb. 27 at the Vicksburg Police Department, but police have said others are believed involved and are being sought.
