Man held in Hermanville man’s shooting|[03/11/08]

Short shot Shorter in Hermanville, a Claiborne County sheriff’s official said this morning.

Abra Shorter, 24, 11035 Pattison/Hermanville Road in Hermanville remained as a patient at University Medical Center in Jackson this morning, and Kelsey Short, 28, 1097 Spinner Bottom Road in Pattison, was in the Claiborne jail awaiting a court date today, Chief Deputy Freddie Yarborough of the sheriff’s department said.

The shooting was at about 3:20 Saturday morning at Pattison Apartments, Yarborough said. He said Short was arrested at his home about an hour after the shooting and charged with aggravated assault and shooting into a motorized vehicle.

Yarborough said the shooting occurred as Short was arguing with another man and opened fire, hitting Shorter.

UMC gave no condition report on Shorter this morning, but Yarborough said it was improving.

Teen bonds out after arrest for statutory rape

A Vicksburg teen was arrested and charged with statutory rape Monday, Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said.

Corey Herndon, 17, 5901 Mount Alban Road, surrendered at the Warren County Sheriff’s Department at about 1:30 p.m. Pace said Herndon’s charges stem from a sexual relationship he had with a person younger than 14.

Herndon was released from the Warren County Jail after posting a $10,000 bond.

Wire, air conditioner, cast iron fittings stolen

Electrical wire and a 3-ton air conditioner were reported stolen in the city Monday, and iron was missing in the county.

At 10:54 a.m., 2,000 feet of 1/2-inch electrical wire was missing from the construction site of a new hotel at 4167 S. Frontage Road. The value was listed at $2,000.

The air conditioner, valued at $1,300, was reported stolen from a vacant house in the 300 block of Mattingly Street. Police received the report at 12:04 p.m.

In Warren County, various sizes of cast iron pipe fittings were reported stolen at 12:35 p.m. from the 100 block of Galey Road. The value was $600.
