Katie Mae Bass
Services for Katie Mae Bass will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Travelers Rest Baptist Church with the Rev. Thomas Bernard officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 until 7 p.m. Thursday at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home with family present from 6 until 7.
Ms. Bass died Thursday, March 6, 2008, at River Region Medical Center. She was 76.
A longtime resident of Vicksburg, she was a member of Shady Grove M.B. Church and a retired cook.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Tommy Bass Sr. and Daisy Mae Sampson Barnes; two sisters, Carolyn Shaye Hudson and Betty Bass Thomas; a brother, Tommy Bass Jr.; a son, Roosevelt Brown; her stepmother, Louvinia Brown; and her grandfather, Pink Sampson.
Survivors include her daughter, Bernice Bass of Vicksburg; two sons, Leon Stewart of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and Abraham Stewart of Greenville; six sisters, Lorine Ringo, Carolyn Faye Franklin, Geraldine Larkin and Queenie King, all of Vicksburg, and Rose Marshall and Clementine Thomas, both of Aurora, Ill.; five brothers, Jack Thomas, Robert Bass, Jimmy Bass and Elbert Brown Jr., all of Vicksburg, and Emmanuel Bass of Aurora; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends, including Eva Jones, Brenda Stanton and Ollie Brown.
Vernon Vincent Maxwell Jr.
Vernon Vincent Maxwell Jr. died Sunday, March 9, 2008, at St. Dominic Jackson Memorial Hospital. He was 44.
Mr. Maxwell was born in Vicksburg.
He was preceded in death by his father, Vernon Vincent Maxwell Sr.; a brother, Andre Maxwell; and his grandparents, Maxine Bunch and Sammy Gooden.
Survivors include his wife, Rita G. Maxwell; one son, Vernon Vincent Maxwell III; his mother, Emma Maxwell; two sisters, Carol Maxwell and Janice Maxwell; and aunts, uncles, nieces, cousins and other relatives, including members of the Maxwell, Gooden, Grant, Jones, Bosley and Lomax families.
Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
