Suspected illegal alien picked up after arrest

A Warren County man who was arrested this weekend on misdemeanor charges was found to be an illegal immigrant, Sheriff Martin Pace said Wednesday.

At about 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Warren County deputies responded to the home of Efran Sanchez, 37, No. 62 Gastrell Lane, due to reports of gunfire, Pace said. Upon arrival, deputies found Sanchez, who appeared to be intoxicated, pacing around the property with a gun. Sanchez at first refused to cooperate, but soon surrendered to deputies.

After he was arrested, deputies suspected that Sanchez’s form of identification was false or had been altered. Deputies sent his information to Immigration and Customs Enforcement and it was later reported back to Warren County officials that Sanchez was an illegal immigrant.

Sanchez now faces federal charges of possessing a deadly weapon by an illegal immigrant. Pace said agents with ICE picked up Sanchez at the Warren County Jail Tuesday and took him to a federal holding facility.
