Charles E. Lee

Charles E. Lee died Thursday, March 20, 2008, at the Heritage House Nursing Center. He was 87.

Mr. Lee was born in Baton Rouge. He graduated from Carr Central High School and Mississippi State College. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Vicksburg. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Washington, D.C. He was a Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers, a member of Waterways and Harbor Division and the International Association of Navigation Congress and the Shore and Beach Preservation Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude C. Lee Sr. and Ida Belle Furlow Lee; his wife, Evelyn Bruce Lee; and a brother, Claude Charles Lee Jr.

Survivors include two sisters, Gladys Lee Cook and Doris Lee Buford, both of Vicksburg; other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cedar Hill Cemetery with Jason Wooley officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the hour of the service at Glenwood Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be nephews.

J.V. Kirkpatrick

J.V. Kirkpatrick died Thursday, March 20, 2008, at River Region Medical Center. He was 70.

A native of Hot Springs, N.C., he retired from the U.S. Air Force in September 1975 and from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in December 1993.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Troy and Mary Kirkpatrick; and one son, Michael Kirkpatrick.

Mr. Kirkpatrick is survived by his wife, Carroll Kirkpatrick of Vicksburg; a daughter, Kelly Crutchfield of Metter, Ga.; two stepsons, Joe Bunch and Rick Bunch, both of Las Vegas; two sisters, Marie Peace of Hendersonville, N.C., and Nola Franklin of Hooper Creek, N.C.; a brother, Roy Kirkpatrick of Hendersonville; and eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services with full military honors will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Frank J. Fisher Funeral Home. Burial will be at Green Acres Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.
