Convicted felon jailed for cocaine possession|[03/25/08]

A Vicksburg man who was convicted of a felony about 2 1/2 weeks ago was arrested again Monday, police said.

Lar’ray Armstrong, 24, 603 Florence St., was picked up by narcotics agents with the Vicksburg Police Department at 8:22 p.m. in the 1400 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, Lt. Bobby Stewart said. Armstrong, who was charged with possession of cocaine, remained in the Issaquena County Jail this morning on a $2,500 bond.

On March 7, Armstrong was convicted of residential burglary and was handed a suspended sentence that included five years of probation. His conviction stemmed from a burglary reported Aug. 3, 2006, at Fordice Construction Company, 1789 Mississippi 27.

Mile and half of copper wire stolen from city plantNearly 1 1/2 miles of copper wire was reported stolen from the Vicksburg Water Treatment Plant Monday, police said.

At 11:47 a.m., police received a report, stating that 1.4 miles of DC copper that stretched from the 601 Haining facility to water wells on Chickasaw Road was missing, Vicksburg Police Lt. Bobby Stewart said. The copper, which was not being used, was valued at $5,000.

The burglary occurred between Friday and Monday, Stewart said.

Three other thefts and burglaries were reported in the city and county Monday.

A motorcycle was reported stolen from a residence in the 700 block of Boy Scout Road. The white CRF 150-F Honda was valued at $3,000. The Warren County Sheriff’s Department received the report at 9 a.m.About 5 minutes later, a residential burglary in the 1700 block of Standard Hill Road was reported to the Warren County Sheriff’s Department. Missing were two cast iron tubs, a 40-foot aluminum ladder, a two-wheeled dolly, a Dry/Wet Vac and a set of 40-year-old tools. The total value was listed at $900.At 1:54 p.m., police received a report of a residential burglary in the 1400 block of East Avenue. Reported stolen was a men’s Seiko watch, a 26-inch Sanyo TV and a set of Panasonic speakers. The total value was listed at $500.

Truck stolen on Clay found four blocks awayA truck reported stolen during the weekend was recovered this morning by Vicksburg police.

At 3:57 a.m., a white 2001 Chevrolet S-10 was recovered in the 900 block of Clay Street. The vehicle was reported stolen Sunday from the 1300 block of Clay Street, Vicksburg Police Lt. Bobby Stewart said.

No arrest had been made.
