Faye R. Harmon
TALLULAH — Faye R. Harmon died Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe, after a lengthy illness. She was 81.
Mrs. Harmon was born in Dodson. La., and lived most of her life in Tallulah. She had been the owner and operator of Faye’s Beauty Shop in Tallulah since 1956. She was a member of First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, W.E. and Alma Roberson; a sister, Gloria R. Bradley; three brothers, Garland Roberson, Carl Roberson and Leonard Roberson, all of Tallulhah; one grandson, Stanley Thigpen; and a great-grandson, Wesley Thigpen.
Survivors include her husband, Thomas Stanley Harmon of Tallulah; a son, Tommy Harmon of Tallulah; three daughters, Alice Faye Ervin and Lena Rhynehart, both of Tallulah, and Judy Bullock of Monroe; two sisters, Louise Cox and Cora Mae Reeves, both of Tallulah; nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held today at First Baptist Church in Tallulah with the Rev. John W. Rushing officiating. Burial followed at Silver Cross Cemetery.
Pallbearers were her grandsons, PeeWee Thigpen, Bill Thigpen, Sam Thigpen, Tommy Mathis, Lance Bullock, Brad Rhynehart, Jason Ewing and Patrick Cobb.
Willard G. Newson
MONTICELLO — Willard G. Newson died Monday, March 17, 2008 ,in Grand Isle, La. He was 51.
He was a graduate of Port Gibson High School and Alcorn State University.
Survivors include his wife, Sallie D. Newson; two sons, Adrian Newson of Brookhaven and Derrick Hamilton of Port Gibson; three daughters, Danielle Nicole Newsom, Amber Sha’Kara Newson and Amie Glynesha Newsom, all of Alcorn State; his mother, Dr. Ella Sutton Anderson; a sister, Elaine Bell; and three grandchildren.
Services were March 22 at Center Street Church in Monticello. Burial followed at Monticello First Baptist Church Cemetery with Laird Morturay of Natchez in charge.
Estella Reed
PORT GIBSON — Estella Reed died Monday, March, 24, 2008, at Claiborne County Hospital. She was 58.
Survivors include her husband, Perry Reed Sr. of Port Gibson; a son, Joshua Reed of Port Gibson; a daughter, Ulanda Jones of Port Gibson; two brothers, Ford Gordon III and Tony Gordon, both of Natchez; four sisters, Frances Doss, Barbara Gordon, Janice Gordon and Audrey Gordon, all of Natchez; two stepsons, Milton Coleman and Percy Redd Jr., both of Port Gibson; one stepdaughter, Patricia Byrd of Port Gibson; five grandchildren; and nieces and nephews and others including Connie O’Neal and Florene Longmire, both of Port Gibson.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Watson Chapel Church with the Rev. James Johnson officiating. Burial under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home of Port Gibson will be at McCay Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 until 6 today at the funeral home and from noon until the hour of the service at the church.
Charlotte Shelby
Services for Charlotte Shelby will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home with the Rev. Johnny L. Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 6 Saturday afternoon at the funeral home with the family being present from 5 until 6.
Mrs. Shelby died Tuesday, March, 25, 2008, at River Region Medical Center. She was 79.
Mrs. Shelby was born in Fayette and had lived most of her life in Vicksburg.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Katie Walker and Ivory Walker; two brothers, Joseph Scott Thomas and Aaron Thomas; and one sister, Cora Lee Gaines.
Survivors include her husband, Brent Shelby of Vicksburg; three sons, Michael Shelby and Charles Shelby, both of Vicksburg, and Brent Shelby of Natchitoches, La.; three daughters, Henretta Shelby, Brenda Shelby and Rose Shelby, all of Vicksburg; one brother, Will T. Thomas of Fayette; two sisters, Gracie Walker of Southaven and Elizabeth Starks of Jackson; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
