From staff reports
Rain got the best of both Vicksburg and St. Aloysius on Friday as both team’s baseball playoff openers were washed away by heavy rain.
Vicksburg High is scheduled to play Neshoba Central at 2 this afternoon in Philadelphia in the Class 4A state playoffs.
The Gators, winners of 13 straight, made the trip to Neshoba and first sat through a rain delay before a deluge forced the postponement.
St. Aloysius similarly traveled to Bogue Chitto only to get washed away near game time. The Flashes are now scheduled to play a doubleheader today starting at 5:30 p.m. at Warren Central’s Viking Field. The Flashes were supposed to play at Hinds Community College, but since Vicksburg is playing on the road today, it left Viking Field available.
Warren Central will host Brandon today at 1 p.m.
Missy Gators take first at division track meet
Vicksburg High finished first in the girls Division 3-4A track meet on Thursday, edging perennial power Pearl 147-144.
Briana Jones won a pair of first places in the 100- and 200-meter dashes, finished first in the long jump and was part of the first-place 800-meter relay team, which also included Kina Hasain, Kamiko Martin and Jazmine Walker.
Hasain won first in both the 100- and 300-meter hurdles, and Quashandra Stewart finished first in the shot put.
Martin placed first in the triple jump and the Missy Gators’ one-mile relay team of Kimeesa Smith, Kourtney Jones, Meredith Stirgus and Martin finished first.
The Missy Gators will participate in the regional meet on April 26 at Pearl.
