2 Vicksburg men jailed in residential burglary|[04/21/08]

Two Vicksburg men were in the Warren County Jail on burglary charges this morning.

Spencer Griffin, 18, 1929 Baldwin Ferry Road, and Billy Ray Savell, 21, 1326 Grove St., were arrested at 1:20 p.m. Saturday and charged with residential burglary of a home in the 1100 block of First North Street, Vicksburg Police Sgt. Sandra Williams said.

Three air conditioning units were reported missing from the home Thursday, Williams said.

Savell was held on $5,000 bond. No bond information was available for Griffin.

Woman pursues thief after purse is snatched

Vicksburg police were looking for a suspect in an attempted strong-arm robbery Saturday.

A woman customer at El Sombrero restaurant on South Frontage Road was walking back to her car at 11:27 a.m. when her purse was snatched from behind, Vicksburg Police Sgt. Sandra Williams said.

The woman chased the man on foot for about 30 feet before he threw her purse out the window and fled the parking lot in a cream-colored vehicle. The only tag information reported was that it was a NASCAR tag, Williams said.

The purse was recovered and the woman was not injured, Williams said.

Rottweiler puppy missing on Dabney

A 2-month-old, black and brown rottweiler puppy was reported missing at 1:02 a.m. Saturday from a home in the 500 block of Dabney Street, reports showed.

The puppy is a male, Vicksburg Police Sgt. Sandra Williams said.

In other thefts during the weekend:

Three air conditioning units valued at $450 were reported missing from a home Saturday in the 1300 block of Grove Street.

Two 4-wheelers were reported missing from a storage room at a home Saturday in the 100 block of Elizabeth Circle, reports showed. They were valued at $1,438.

A generator valued at $300 was reported missing at 10:54 a.m. Friday from a home in the 2900 block of Arcadia Place, reports showed.

3 crimes reported at mall parking lot

One auto burglary and two attempted burglaries were reported Saturday in the parking lot of Pemberton Square mall.

At 1:11 p.m., $220 in cash was reported missing from a 2003 Chevrolet pickup. At 5:14 p.m., separate reports came in concerning a 1999 Chevy Malibu and a 2003 Volvo. Nothing was reported missing from either vehicle.

About $175 was reported missing from a 2006 GMC pickup at 7:12 a.m. Friday in the 1300 block of Mulberry Street.

A bag containing bed sheets and a coin purse was reported missing at 4:13 p.m. Saturday from a 2005 Dodge Ram 3500 pickup in the 4300 block of South Frontage Road.

A .380 Cobra pistol was reported missing at 3:40 p.m. from a 1998 Oldsmobile Cutlass in the 2100 block of Cherry Street.

Manor Drive office entered, ransacked

The offices of Campbell Development were ransacked as a result of a weekend burglary, reports show.

About $100 was reported missing following the incident, reported at 7:29 a.m. Friday. Drawers of desks inside the business at 3532 Manor Drive were opened and damaged, Vicksburg Police Sgt. Sandra Williams said.
