Jackson man arrested here for Southaven bank robbery|[04/30/08]

A Jackson man was in Warren County Jail this morning, being held for federal authorities on charges he robbed a bank in Southaven.

Kha-Beer Muhaimin, 42, 325 Beasley Road, Apt. C-8, was arrested at 12:25 a.m. Tuesday by officers Roy Hall, Chris Williams and Ronnie Fuller at Ameristar Casino, 4146 Washington St., after security officers recognized him from fliers put out by Southaven police, Vicksburg Police Lt. Bobby Stewart said.

Muhaimin was charged with robbing a BancorpSouth branch March 28 in Southaven and for an attempted bank robbery the same day in Memphis. According to information supplied to Vicksburg police by federal authorities, Muhaimin served time in prison on drug charges as Edward Douglas before converting faiths and changing his name.

Muhaimin was to be taken by U.S. Marshals Service to the federal holding facility in Madison County.

City man shot in legs in robbery on Locust

A Vicksburg man was released from River Region Medical Center after being shot in both legs during a robbery on Locust Street.

Lawrence Blackmore, 18, 3520 Ring Road, was found in the 400 block of Locust Street by police responding to a robbery call at 1:57 a.m., said Vicksburg Police Lt. Bobby Stewart.

Blackmore had gunshot wounds to each leg and told police he was robbed of $240, Stewart said.

Police pursued a suspect running south on Locust Street, but no arrest had been made, Stewart said. Blackmore was released after treatment, a hospital spokesman said.

Rented car reported stolen from dealership

Two burglaries and an auto theft were reported Tuesday in Vicksburg and Warren County.

Three mowers and a 16-foot utility trailer were reported missing at 6:25 p.m. from a home in the 300 block of Newit Vick Drive.

The items, a Sears Craftsman riding mower, a Cub Cadet walk-behind mower and a self-propelled mower, were valued a $6,500.

A Sony PlayStation 2 and games were reported missing at 7:47 p.m. from a home in the 1200 block of Mission 66.

A 2001 Mitsubishi Galant with Mississippi tag WAJ 922 was reported missing from OK Cars, 1460 S. Frontage Road. Records show the vehicle was rented from the business but not returned.
