Local chamber choir sets spring concert

Bach to Bernstein, the spring concert by the Vicksburg Chamber Choir, will be at First Presbyterian Church, 1501 Cherry St., at 7:30 p.m. May 13. Admission is free, but donations will be welcomed.

Traveling exhibit coming to SCHC

The Mississippi Art Colony Traveling Exhibit will be at the Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation Academy Building May 13 with an opening reception from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

The exhibit will be on display through June 10 and will be available for viewing from 8 a.m. until noon and 1 until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday or by appointment. Use the courtyard entrance from Adams Street. Student groups are welcome. Special group viewings may be arranged by reservation.

Dr. Selby

ParkerCity native to present book on Civil War in Texas

Vicksburg native and author Dr. Selby Parker has been invited by the Texas Civil War Museum in Fort Worth to participate in the Jefferson Davis Bicentennial to present his book, “The Camel Boy,” a novel about the Civil War.

The event will be Friday and Saturday at the Historic Fort Worth Stockyards.

Jefferson Davis’ great- great- grandson, Bertram Hayes-Davis, will be at the event to review the troops as Secretary of War. Accompanying him will be the Texas Camel Corps in honor of the camels brought to Texas by Jefferson Davis in May 1856.

ORAG monthly artist is photographer Heck

The photographs of Charlie Heck will be featured at the Ouachita River Art Gallery throughout the month of May. Admission is free.

The Ouachita River Art Gallery is located at 308 Trenton St., in West Monroe and is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.

’60s R&B artist to sing at casino in Greenville

Chubby Checker will be at Harlow’s Casino in Greenville on Saturday. Doors will open at 7 p.m. and the performance begins at 8. Tickets are $20 and $25.
