Woodrow David Buck
PORT GIBSON – Woodrow David Buck died Tuesday, May 6, 2008, in Fort Washington, Md. He was 89.
A resident of Port Gibson, Mr. Buck was of the Baptist faith. He was a veteran of the Army, serving in World War II. He was retired from Magnolia Trailers of Vicksburg.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Willie Ruth Brown Buck; one son, Sammy Buck; a sister, Hattie Buck Miller; Dude Buck Jr. and Will Buck; and his parents, Dude Sr. and Mariah Buck.
He is survived by one daughter, Beverly Parker Adams; two sons, Bennie Parker and Virgil Parker; three stepdaughters, Marie Wilson, Yancey Aukward and Jeannette Johnston; two stepsons, Delanders Parker and Elvis Parker; a brother, Harry Buck; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Robbins Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Louise Melville Crane
NEWELLTON – Funeral services for Mrs. Louise Melville Crane, age 89, will be held today at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Newellton with the Rev. J. Fulton McGraw officiating. Burial will follow at Legion Cemetery in Newellton. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time for the services at the church.
Mrs. Crane, formerly of Newellton, passed away Tuesday, May 6, 2008, in Lafayette, La. She is survived by her daughter, Gloria Marquis, and her husband, Earl, of Alvin, Texas; three sons, Dale Crane and his wife, Rosa, of Pineville, La., Keith Crane of St. Joseph, La., and Kirk Crane and his wife, Susan, of Lafayette. She leaves eight grandchildren, Melanie Hughes, Chuck Jenkins, Dana Chambliss, Kevin Crane, Jay Crane, Scott Crane, Tiffany Crane and Todd Crane; eight great-grandchildren, Ashley Ostrowski, Emily Hughes, Sarena Chambliss, Brianna Crane, Alex Crane, Kayla Crane, Parker Crane and Brooklyn Crane; three brothers, Vernon Melville, Charles Melville and James Melville; and six sisters, Lavada Long, Llewelyn Gasaway, Helen Bottrell, Lorraine Rucker, Joyce Bonds and Margaret LaRoe.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Talmadge Crane; her parents, Leon Melville and Mae Segers Melville; brothers, David Melville, Harvey Lee Melville and Garland Melville; and sisters, Annie Ruth Meyers and Dorothy Jean Melville.
Mrs. Crane was born in Brookhaven, Miss., and was a resident of Tensas Parish for over 60 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Newellton. She was administrator of Heritage Manor Nursing Home through its transition to the Newellton Nursing Home. “Miss Louise” will be dearly missed by her extended church family.
Ike Evans
ROLLING FORK – Ike Evans died Sunday, May 4, 2008, in Joliet, Ill. He was 56.
Mr. Evans was formerly of Rolling Fork.
He is survived by his mother, Corine Evans of Vicksburg; one son, Issac Evans of Grambling, La.; one daughter, Jessica Jefferson of Earl, Ark.; six brothers, Leonard McGee, James Evans and Donnal Ray Evans, all of Chicago, Dan Evans Jr. of Vicksburg, Alvin Evans of Greenville and Reginald Evans of Laurel; six sisters, Evelyn Dent and Rebecca Johnson, both of Vicksburg, Amanda Diggs of Rolling Fork, Commie Lee Evans of Chicago, Yvonne Holmes of St. Louis, Mo., and Doritha Evans of Hawthorn, Calif.; and one grandchild.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Sunday at E.P. Baptist Church in Rolling Fork with Pastor Oscar Peace officiating. Burial will follow at Green Chapel Cemetery in Rolling Fork. A wake service will be from 4 until 5 p.m. Saturday at Walker Funeral Home of Rolling Fork.
Lois P. Machen
TALLULAH – Graveside services for Lois P. Machen, age 88, will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2008, at the Silver Cross Cemetery with the Rev. John W. Rushing officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home of Tallulah. Visitation will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home.
Mrs. Machen died Thursday, May 8, 2008, at the Olive Branch Senior Care Center in Tallulah. She had lived in Louisiana most of her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Machen; one daughter, Joan Colbert; and one grandson, Edward Machen.
Survivors include two sons, Paul Machen and his wife, Deborah, Maurice Machen and his wife, Cynthia, all of Tallulah; one sister, Romarie Martin of Magee, Miss.; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Len Machen, Bill Machen, Cameron Machen, Dene Machen, Stewart Machen and Alan Machen.
Jose Alejandro Saldana
TALLULAH – Jose Alejandro Saldana died Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at his home. He was 84.
Mr. Saldana was born in Mercedes, Texas, and had lived in Madison Parish since 1949. He was a retired farmer and a member of St. Edwards Catholic Church of Tallulah. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved caring for his animals, especially his horses. He loved the outdoors and all that was in it. He doted over his children and grandchildren. He loved having family close.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jose Encharnacion Saldana and Cresencia Longoria Saldana; three sisters, Maria Pena, Augstina Herenandez and Estefina Sanis; three brothers, Jessie Saldana, Benigno Saldana and Ruben Saldana.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Florencia Lopez Saldana; three sisters Angelina Saldana Morin and Armanda Saldana Rodriguez, both of Texas, and Felipa Lopez of Transylvania. La.; four sons, Jose E. Saldana and his wife, Amelia of Vicksburg, and Alejandro Saldana and his wife, Louise, Juan M. Saldana Sr. and his wife, Deborah, and Gilibaldo Saldana and his wife, Darlene, all of Tallulah; six daughters, Angelita Hernandez and her husband, Juan, of Monroe, La., Josephina Hodge and her husband, L.C., of Mangum, La., Esperancia “Hope” Grigsby and her husband, Johnny Lee, of Tallulah, and Stephanie Wicker and her husband, Mike, Julia Bridges and her husband, Larry, and Louisa Whitehead and her husband, Ernie, all of Vicksburg; 38 grandchildren and 58 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Alex Saldana, Oscar Hernandez, David Saldana, Samuel McPherson, Marcus Wicker, Matthew Bingham, Gilibaldo Saldana Jr., Joshua Saldana, Cody Bridges and Johnathon Whitehead.
Honorary pallbearers will be Juan Marcus Hernandez, Justin McPherson, Joey Saldana, Joseph Saldana, A.J. Saldana, John Richard McPherson, Tinney Hodge and Juan M. Saldana Jr.
Crothers-Glenwood has charge of arrangements.
Vivian B. Stewart
Vivian B. Stewart died Thursday, May 8, 2008, at River Region Medical Center. She was 78.
Born in Ruleville, Miss., she was the daughter of the late Rube Berry and Lizzie Bailey Berry. Mrs. Stewart had been a resident of Vicksburg since 1967. Family was important to her, as she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister.
She was preceded in death by three sisters and six brothers.
She is survived by her husband, Doyle Stewart of Vicksburg; two sons, Jerry Stewart and his wife, Kay, of Vicksburg and Bobby Stewart and his wife, Patti, of Madisonville, La.; five granddaughters, Kim Ashley and her husband, Chuck, Jennifer Bradford and her husband, Gary, Lindsey Stewart, Kacey Stewart and Danielle Garton and her husband, Marty; three grandsons, Tommy Stewart and his wife, Tammy, Zack Stewart and Justin White and his wife, Susan; 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Vera White of St. Peters, Mo., Gladys Shipley of St. Louis, Mo., and Juanita Atkinson of Calhoun, La.; and one brother, Charles Berry of Greenville, Miss.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. Harold Donald Jr. officiating. Burial will be at Green Acres Memorial Park under the direction of Riles Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Robert Berry, Lawrence Berry, Billy Tubertini, Mike Tubertini, Douglas Tubertini, Tommy Stewart and Zack Stewart.

Christine Haynes Vaughn
GREENVILLE – Christine Haynes Vaughn died Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at Centinella Medical Hospital in Inglewood, Calif. She was 55.
Formerly of Greenville, Mrs. Vaughn was a Los Angeles resident.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmo and Luella Haynes; and a brother, Roosevelt Haynes.
She is survived by a daughter, Loretta Elaine Vaughn of Greenville; one sister, Ceola Walton of Los Angeles; four brothers, Sylverster Kelly of Los Angeles, James Haynes of Greenville, Thomas Haynes of Grace and Willie Haynes; five grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, including Laura Richmond and Valerie Newsome, both of Greenville, and Rosie Mae Franklin of Grace.
Services will be at 6 p.m. Monday at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Greenville with the Rev. Albert Mark Hines officiating. Burial will follow at Jenkins Cemetery in Glen Allan under the direction of Walker Funeral Home of Rolling Fork. Visitation will be at the church Monday from 5 p.m. until the service.
