James O. BowmanThe Vicksburg Warren County Memorial Day Committee and the American Leigon Post No. 213 have announced a speaker for Memorial Day activities.

Sgt. Maj. James O. Bowman will speak at the 11 a.m. memorial service at the Vicksburg Auditorium, 901 Monroe St. The memorial service will follow the parade along Washington Street at 10 a.m.

After Bowman’s speech, participants may go to the Vicksburg National Cemetery, where wreaths will be placed on an unknown soldier’s grave, accompanied by a 21-gun salute and “Taps.”

Bowman, a native of Edgefield, S.C., served in the U.S. Army for 30 years.
