TOPEKA, Kansas – Savannah Lee Banks, a former resident of Vicksburg, died Thursday, May 15, 2008, at her home in Topeka, Kansas. She was 63.

Mrs. Banks was born in Vicksburg to Almo Nelson and Aldia King.

She worked as a nursing assistant at Shady Lawn Nursing Home in Vicksburg and was a member of Mount Olive M.B. Church II in Vicksburg.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Otis Lee Banks.

Mrs. Banks is survived by two sons, Fabian Darrell Hardy of Topeka and Otis Lee Banks Jr. of Vicksburg; a daughter, Lila Washington of Topeka; a sister, Thelma B. Parr of Chicago; a niece; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Bowser Johnson Funeral Chapel in Topeka.

Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Gideon Washington Funches Sr.

Gideon Washington Funches Sr.Gideon Washington “Bubba” Funches Sr. died Monday, May 19, 2008, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. He was 80.

Mr. Funches was retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, where he was a heavy-equipment operator. He also was retired from the timber industry. He was a member of New Oak Ridge M.B. Church, where he served on the usher board.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Sumril Robert Funches Sr.

Mr. Funches is survived by five sons, Gideon W. Funches Jr. of Nashville, Gerone G. Funches of Gardena, Calif., Larry Funches of Lansing, Mich., Calvin Funches of Los Angeles and Michael Funches of Edwards; six daughters, Patricia Funches of Los Angeles, Beverly C. Funches of Hawthorne, Calif., Mary E. Funches of Long Beach, Calif., Janice Thompson of Clinton and Brenda L. Heard and Mary F. Woodhouse, both of Edwards; a brother, Walter Funches of Detroit; a sister, Punzell Funches of Lansing; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
