CRIME * From staff reports

A late-night hit-and-run on a Vicksburg Police cruiser left one prisoner injured and authorities looking for the driver of the offending vehicle.

Lt. Billy Brown said he had arrested 39-year-old Tracy Brown on misdemeanor charges minutes before the wreck at about 11 p.m. Saturday at Bowmar Avenue and Drummond Street.

The officer turned north onto Drummond from Bowmar Avenue and his car collided with one headed west on Bowmar, from beneath a hill that prevented his seeing the other vehicle.

The other vehicle did not stop and fled the scene.

Lt. Brown said the wreck happened so fast he wasn’t able to see the other vehicle or get its tag number.

The officer also said he was not injured in the wreck, but his prisoner was taken to the River Region Medical Center, where a spokesman said Sunday he was treated and released.
