Henry Bauni

JOPLIN, Mo. – Henry Bauni died Sunday, May 25, 2008, in Joplin, Mo. He was 73.

Mr. Bauni was born in Vicksburg to Henry and Josephine Chisholm Bauni. A 1952 graduate of St. Aloysius High School, he received a bachelor of science degree from the University of Arkansas. He lived with his family in Texas and New Jersey, working for Exxon Oil for 35 years. He moved to Joplin after retiring in 1994.

Mr. Bauni was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and was a Community Health Clinic volunteer in Joplin.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Nancy Strub Bauni; a son, Hank Bauni; and a daughter, Beth Bauni.

He is survived by two sisters, Joanne Bauni of Joplin and Mary E. Stone of Louisville, Ky.; three granddaughters; two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services were at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Joplin with the Rev. Justin Monaghan officiating. Burial followed at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary in Joplin.

Memorials may be made to the St. Mary’s Building Fund or the St. Vincent DePaul Society.

Nelda Bradford Brown

ROLLING FORK – Nelda Bradford Brown died Saturday, May 31, 2008, at her home. She was 77.

Mrs. Brown was a lifelong resident of the Mississippi Delta. She attended Cary High School and was a graduate of Millsaps College. She retired as city clerk of Rolling Fork after 17 years of service.

Survivors include her husband, Arthur “Bubba” Brown of Rolling Fork; a daughter, Phyllis Watson of Rolling Fork; one brother, Richard Bradford of Jackson; one sister, Joyce Gaspard of Eunice, La.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel at Glenwood Funeral Home in Rolling Fork.

Warren Fortner Jr.

GLEN ALLAN – Warren “Sonny” Fortner Jr. died Saturday, May 31, 2008, at Sharkey-Issaquena Hospital in Rolling Fork. He was 74.

Mr. Fortner was born in Washington County and has been a resident of Issaquena County for many years. He attended Hinds Junior College and was a 1960 graduate of Mississippi State University with a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering. He was employed for a number of years with MP&L Co. He was also employed with Aramco in Saudi Arabia for a number of years. He was a veteran of the Navy during the Korean Conflict and had worked for Issaquena County as the floodplain administrator under FEMA.

Survivors include his wife, Erline D. Fortner of Grace; two sons, Steve Fortner and Brian Keith Fortner, both of Grace; and two brothers, James “Jimmy” Fortner of Lake Charles, La., and Robert “Bobby” Fortner of West Virginia.

Services were at 11 a.m. today at Glenwood Funeral Home in Rolling Fork with Stan Delaney officiating. Burial followed at Greenfield Cemetery in Glen Allan. Visitation was from 10 a.m. today until the service.

John E. Horton Sr.

Mr. John E. Horton Sr. died at his home Saturday, May 31, 2008. He was 101 years old.

A native and lifelong resident of Vicksburg, he was the son of the late Walter Frank and Grace Pervanger Horton. He attended St. Aloysius College and retired from the Warren County Highway Department in 1973. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus of Vicksburg, a longtime member of the Long Lake Hunting and Fishing Club and a communicant of St. Michael Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Lou Ella “Bobbie” Horton.

Mr. Horton is survived by two sons, John E. Horton Jr. of Gonzales, La., and Walter “Ben” Horton of Vicksburg; four grandchildren, Alicia Horton Sanchez and Billy J. Horton, both of Vicksburg, Kay Valentine of Gulfport and John E. “Jay” Horton III of Prairieville, La.; and four great-grandchildren, Alexcia Sanchez and Ashley Sanchez, both of Vicksburg, and Jordyn Horton and Jade Horton, both of Prairieville.

Services were at 2 p.m. Monday, June 2, 2008, at Green Acres Memorial Park with the Revs. P.J. Curley and Raggy Ragsdale officiating.

Visitation was from 1 p.m. until the service at Frank J. Fisher Funeral Home.
