A concert to benefit the Robert Wallace Hollingsworth Family Scholarship for Law Enforcement at Hinds Community College is set for next Saturday at Hinds’ Raymond campus.
“It is very important that law enforcement officers get a good education,” said Vicksburg resident Jack Hollingsworth, organizer of the concert. He will also sing at the event.
The benefit will feature Hinds County Sheriff Malcom McMillin as emcee and five Christian-based acts – Hollingsworth; Harmony and Grits, a bluegrass and Gospel band from Pearl; Heaven’s Journey, a group from First Baptist Church of Byram; the Born Again Quartet of Byram; and gospel singer Naomi Barnette of Raymond.
Hollingsworth started the benefit concert in 2004 and initiated a scholarship fund the next year. The scholarship is named for his father, who was a Mississippi highway patrolman. It furthers the education of law enforcement students at Hinds.

The event will be at Hogg Auditorium inside Cain-Cochran Hall. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted.Law enforcement is a family business for the Hollingsworths. A Vicksburg resident since 1953, Hollingsworth was a local police officer before retiring in 1988 and is now a parole officer with the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
When the concert was begun in 2004, it was to help Hollingsworth’s son, Mike Hollingsworth, a Warren County deputy sheriff who was hit and injured by a vehicle that year while directing traffic during a funeral procession.
The concert, which starts at 6:30 p.m., will be at Hogg Auditorium inside Cain-Cochran Hall. The venue does not allow the sale of tickets, Hollingsworth said, so a voluntary offering will be taken to fund the scholarship.
