Jackson man says guilty, sentenced in Vicksburg robbery|[06/21/08]

A Jackson man expected to face trial this past Monday for an armed robbery in Vicksburg instead pleaded guilty and was sentenced to seven years in prison.

Myron Sumlin, 24, 30 North Hill Parkway, Apt. A6, was one of three people accused in a March 17, 2007, armed robbery at Hair It Iz, 1614 Bodley St. The codefendants, 25-year-old William Green of Pearl and 21-year-old Virgil Woods of Ridgeland, were also expected to stand trial Monday, but instead pleaded guilty.

Warren County Circuit Judge Frank Vollor handed Sumlin the seven-year sentence based on a recommendation by the District Attorney’s Office. Assistant DA Dewey Arthur said Sumlin played a lesser role in the crime than Green and Woods. Sumlin was ordered to pay $312.50 in court costs and assessments.

Green and Woods will be sentenced at a later date.

Also in Warren County Circuit Court during the week that ended Friday:

Michael Allen Cullins, 40, 2500 Oak St., had his suspended sentenced revoked after he was found to have violated probation, which stemmed from a third-offense shoplifting conviction in January 2007. Judge Isadore Patrick ordered Cullins to attend the Mississippi Department of Corrections Drug Treatment Program. Upon completion of the program, Cullins will be enroll in the Hinds County Restitution Center, where will pay $1,027 in fines, court costs and assessments. Cullins will also be placed in MDOC’s Intense Supervision Program for one year.

Jermaine Franklin, 26, 2709 Drummond St., pleaded guilty to two separate indictments
