A property-line feud between next door neighbors resulted in one man dying and another being jailed Wednesday night, Vicksburg police said.

Devin M. Moore, 23, 106 Meadowvale Drive, was found at the end of his neighbor’s drive when police responded to an emergency call recorded at 10:13 p.m. Minutes later, he was pronounced dead at River Region Medical Center, shot in the chest, legs, back and buttocks.

Eric Davis, 34, 112 Meadowvale Drive, surrendered at police headquarters about 30 minutes later. He had been identified by witnesses as the man seen running away after the shots rang out, Vicksburg Police Lt. Bobby Stewart said.

Davis was in the Warren County Jail this morning, charged with murder, possession of a weapon after a felony conviction and being a convicted felon using a firearm in the act of a felony. His initial court appearance is set for Vicksburg Municipal Court Friday, Stewart said.

Records at the 9th Circuit District Attorney’s Office show Davis’ previous felony conviction was in 1995 for possession of a controlled substance.

Wednesday night’s gunfire on the street near Sky Farm Avenue followed an ongoing feud over the property line that runs between the homes of the two men, Stewart said.

He said Davis and Moore’s mother, Helen Williams, were arguing outside and when Devin Moore attempted to intervene, Davis shot him with a handgun.

Stewart refused to say if the weapon was recovered.

Deputy Coroner Kelda Bailess said this morning that an autopsy would be performed at the Mississippi State Crime Lab in Jackson tonight.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

The homicide is the fourth recorded in the city this year. One has been recorded in the county.
