The brother of a pregnant Vicksburg woman who was killed while seeking safety from gunfire outside her Ken Karyl Avenue home has been charged in an unrelated shooting.

Jonathan Jackson, 19, 3632 Ken Karyl Ave., was arrested by Vicksburg police at 6:45 p.m. Friday while he was at police headquarters as a witness in his sister’s killing on Thursday night, Lt. Bobby Stewart said.

Jackson is accused of shooting Lawrence Blackmore, 18, 3520 Ring Road, on April 30, Stewart said. Blackmore was shot in the leg and robbed of $240.

Jackson, the brother of 25-year-old Denise Jackson who was found dead in her home crouched behind a couch, had been taken to the police department as a witness to his sister’s death at her 2634 Ken Karyl Ave. home, Stewart said.

The pregnant mother of three was hit by a stray bullet after an argument over a Playstation 2 video game escalated into gunfire.

Nearly 24 hours later, the body of Preston L. Qualls, 25, 1523 Ethel St., was found two doors away near debris from a house under construction, and police believe he was a victim of the same gunfire.

The man charged with killing Denise Jackson and her unborn child is Eric DeShawn Jackson, 26, 2609 Grant St., no relation to the victim.

Eric DeShawn Jackson was arrested and charged with two counts of murder, four counts of aggravated assault, shooting into an occupied dwelling and felony weapon possession after he surrendered early Friday. He was denied bond at his initial court hearing Friday morning.

Eric DeShawn Jackson is charged in Denise Jackson’s shooting, but he has not been charged in Qualls’.

The shootings Thursday ended a bloody week in Vicksburg that began with David Becker, 26, 712 Speed St., dying three weeks after being shot while on his front porch. Two people have been charged in that case.

On Wednesday, Devin M. Moore, 23, 106 Meadowvale Drive, was killed in what police said was an argument with a neighbor over a property line. The neighbor was arrested and charged with murder.

The deaths brought to six the number of gunshot-related homicides in Vicksburg this year. Seven were recorded in all of 2007.

Police did not say how they traced the April 30 shooting and robbery to Jonathan Jackson.
