Martha Lee Brooks
Martha Lee Brooks died Monday, June 30, 2008, at River Region Medical Center. She was 68.
Mrs. Brooks was a member of Mount Olive M.B. Church. She worked as a nurse’s assistant and also as a cook for Tasty Foods and Crowley’s Smoke House.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Simmie Brooks Sr.; her parents, Roosevelt Pampley and Elizabeth Smith; and a brother, James Johnson.
Survivors include two sons, David “Boo” Brooks and Simmie “Peabody” Brooks Jr., both of Vicksburg; eight grandchildren; and friends and other relatives, including members of the Diggs, Hebron, Thomas, Wynn, Parker, Buchanan, Spratley, Regan and Brown families.
Williams Funeral Service has charge of arrangements.
Larry L. Haney
Services for Larry L. Haney will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert L. Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Robbins Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 1 until 5 p.m. today at Robbins Funeral Home.
Mr. Haney died Thursday, June 26, 2008, at River Region Medical Center. He was 49.
Mr. Haney was born in Vicksburg and was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his father, Samuel Currie III; a brother, James Haney Jr.; a sister, Willie May Haney Boyd; his maternal grandparents, Willie Richards and Mary Eliza Cannon; and his paternal grandparents, Samuel Currie Jr. and Sedella Currie Green.
He is survived by his mother, Marcella Haney of Vicksburg; a son, Larry Da’Von Hamlin of Vicksburg; four sisters, Mary Louise Reese and Inishal Haney Sartin, both of Milwaukee, Wis., Mattye Lee Watson of Jackson and Beatrice Haney of Vicksburg; a brother, Willie Richardson of Jackson; two grandchildren and nieces, nephews, cousins and others.
Shelly Hill Sr.
Shelly “Jim Dandy” Hill Sr. died Saturday, June 28, 2008, in Claiborne County. He was 63.
Born in Hollandale, Mr. Hill was a Vicksburg resident. He retired as a mechanic from Sheffield Rentals. He was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his father, Keller Hill; a sister, Emma Jean Williams; two brothers, Edward Louis Caston and Kelly Hill Sr.; and one granddaughter, Antoinette Jones.
He is survived by three sons, Shelly Hill Jr., Cornell Miles and JaMarcus Williams, all of Vicksburg; four daughters, Marion Hill Johnson, Sharon Hill Christmas and Malinda Hill, all of Vicksburg, and LaShondra Williams of Jackson; his mother, Willie B. McGowan-Hill of Vicksburg; three brothers, Tommie Caston and Willie Noye, both of Vicksburg, and Bennie Caston of Lansing, Mich.; six sisters, Willie Mae Walker of Aurora, Ill., and Mary O’Neal, Isabella Heath, Ruthie Anderson, Etta Harris and Rena Washington, all of Vicksburg; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including the Billy Sheffield family.
W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Denise L. Jackson
Services for Denise L. Jackson will be at noon Wednesday at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home with Dr. Charles Chiplin officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon until 6 tonight at the funeral home.
Ms. Jackson died Thursday, June 26, 2008, at her home. She was 25.
Ms. Jackson was an assistant manager at a Kangaroo convenience store.
Survivors include her son, Jamari Anderson of Vicksburg; two daughters, Toni Delores Jackson and Ashli Anderson, both of Vicksburg; three brothers, Ladarrion Miko Jackson and Michael Jay Jackson, both of Vicksburg, and Carl Jackson of Cincinnati, Ohio; one sister, Toni Kyles of Chicago; her father, Wendell Cosey of Las Vegas; her adopted fathers, Lucious Jackson and Michael Jackson; her grandfather, Leon Cosey of Las Vegas; her fiance, Marquis “Shun” Bland of Vicksburg; and aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives, including Louise Miller of Vicksburg and members of the Miller, Scott, Ragan and Cosey families.
Willie Ruth Stamps
EDWARDS – Willie Ruth Stamps died Friday, June 27, 2008, at River Region Medical Center. She was 68.
Mrs. Stamps was administrator of the Hinds County Public Head Start.
Services will be at noon Saturday at United M.B. Church in Edwards. Burial will follow at Morning Star Baptist Church Cemetery in Edwards. Visitation will be from noon until 7 p.m. Thursday at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home.
