Shelly Hill Sr
Services for Shelly “Jim Dandy” Hill Sr. will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Vicksburg City Auditorium with the Rev. Johnny Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.
Mr. Hill died Saturday, June 28, 2008, in Claiborne County. He was 63.
A Vicksburg resident, Mr. Hill was a retired mechanic for Sheffield Rentals. He was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his father, Keller Hill; a sister, Emma Jean Williams; two brothers, Edward Louis Caston and Kelly Hill Sr.; and one granddaughter.
He is survived by three sons, Shelly Hill Jr., Cornell Miles and JaMarcus Williams, all of Vicksburg; four daughters, Marion Hill Johnson, Sharon Hill Christmas and Malinda Hill, all of Vicksburg, and LaShondra Williams of Jackson; his mother, Willie B. McGowan-Hill of Vicksburg; three brothers, Tommie Caston and Willie Noye, both of Vicksburg, and Bennie Caston of Lansing Mich.; six sisters, Willie Mae Walker of Aurora, Ill. and Mary O’Neal, Isabella Heath, Ruthie Anderson, Etta Harris and Rena Washington, all of Vicksburg; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Herman W. McPhail
Herman W. McPhail died Friday, July 4, 2008, at home. He was 64.
Born in Onward, Miss., Mr. McPhail lived in Rolling Fork and Vicksburg for many years. He was retired from Anderson-Tully Co., where he was a sawyer. He retired after 24 years of employment.
He was a member of the Deer Creek Masonic Lodge No. 356, where he served as past master. He was a member of Chief’s Hunting Club in Winona, Miss., and Booger Hole Hunting Club in Poplar Creek, Miss. Mr. McPhail was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rolling Fork.
He was preceded in death by wife Patricia McPhail; parents Hoy L. McPhail Sr. and Belvis D. McPhail; three brothers, Hoy L. McPhail Jr., Robert W. McPhail and Herbert McPhail; and three sisters, Letha Sims, Nettie Wixon and Grace Shive.
Survivors include his wife, Theresa Box McPhail of Vicksburg; two daughters, Stephanie L. Gower and husband Gene of Madison and Tiffanie L. Shreve and husband Matthew of Brandon; one stepdaughter, Kristen L. Sims of Edwards; two brothers, Charles R. McPhail of Rolling Fork and Hubert E. McPhail of Mendenhall; three sisters, Lucille Bodie of Vicksburg, Addie Mae Holloway of Valley Park and Janelle Holloway of Canton; and two grandchildren, Lane Shreve and Lacie Shreve, both of Brandon.
Services will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Mound Cemetery in Rolling Fork. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. Monday until the service at Glenwood Funeral Home in Rolling Fork.
Pallbearers will be Hubert McPhail, Eric McPhail, Danny Cockrell, Ray Watson, Carl Mangrum and Tad Bonds.
