Clyde Ellis hit a hole-in-one on June 25 at the Vicksburg Country Club. He made the 167-yard shot on No. 2 with a 6-iron. Witnesses were Ben Brooks, Steve Gluck and Greg Clements.

On July 5, Mike Caruthers aced No. 18, a 147-yard shot, with an 8-iron. Witnesses were John Moss, Rusty Hawkins and Herb Jones.

Clear Creek LadiesGolf Association report

Last Wednesday, the ladies of Clear Creek hosted their monthly retiree’s scramble. The team of Pete Johnson, Jimmy Stabler, Johnny Nassour and Wanda Caruthers won first place, while the team of Bob Walters, David Williams, Joyce Johnson and Jane Laboda captured second. The team of Dusty Rhodes, Doug Stroud, Sandy Rhodes and Linda McHann placed third.

Chip-ins were made by Walters, Johnson, Williams, Caruthers and J.T. Carter. Sandy Rhodes had closest to the pin on No. 2 and Vi Krisker had closest to the pin on No. 14. For the men, Bill Arrington was closest to the pin on No. 4 and Dusty Rhodes was closest on No. 13. Sandy Rhodes had the longest women’s drive on No. 12 and Jim Hurley had the longest men’s drive on No. 7.

On Saturday, the Ladies played a stroke play game. Libby Byrd, Karen Carroll, Shara Heusinger and Wanda Caruthers were the top finishers. There will be no Saturday game this week because the course will be hosting a tournament.

Alcorn coach Smith teaching hoops camp

Newly hired Alcorn State men’s basketball coach Larry Smith will lead an instructional basketball camp on Saturday, and again on July 19 and 26 at the Raworth YMCA. The camp is sponsored by Loving Care Camps, Inc., and the cost is $50. Camp for children ages 8-13 will run from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., and from 10 a.m. to noon for players ages 13-18. St. Aloysius baseball tryouts rescheduled

Tryouts for the St. Aloysius baseball team have been rescheduled for today and Thursday, at 10 a.m. each day at Bazinsky Field. For information, call coach Clint Wilkerson at 601-507-2423, or assistant coach Trey Clark at 601-540-1222.

Registration for Governor’s Cup

Registration for the Governor’s Cup youth baseball tournament is now being accepted. The tournament will be at Halls Ferry Park, July 25-27 for ages 7-, 10-, 12-, 13- and 16-and-under, and Aug. 1-3 for ages 6-, 8-, 9-, 11-, and 14-and-under.

County alumni hosting MSU Bulldog Celebration

The Warren County Chapter of the Mississippi State University Alumni Association will host its Bulldog Celebration on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at City Auditorium. New athletic director Greg Byrne, MSU women’s basketball coach Sharon Fanning and Jimmy Abraham, executive director of the alumni association, are scheduled to attend. Cost is $10 per person and children under 8 years old are free.

Warren Central baseball tryouts

Tryouts for Warren Central’s baseball team will be July 22-24 at Viking Field for players in 9th through 12th grades from 3 to 5 p.m. each day. All players must try out.

Summer youth golf camp at Clear creek

Clear Creek Golf Course will host a summer golf camp for children of all ages and abilities this summer. The camp session will be July 28-Aug. 1. Children ages 8 and under will play from 7:30-9 a.m., ages 9-13 will go from 9-11 a.m., and ages 14-17 will go from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Cost is $80 per student. GymSouth accepting registration for classes

GymSouth Gymnastics is having registration for summer and fall classes.

Classes being taught are Cheerleading Tryout Prep, Pre-School and Beginner Gymnastics, as well as Beginner and Power Tumbling.

Adult co-ed softball league registration

Registration for the Vicksburg Parks and Recreation Department’s adult co-ed softball league will begin July 28 and continue until Aug. 25. The cost is $250 per team, with an additional charge of $15 for Warren County residents and $25 for residents of Claiborne, Sharkey and Issaquena counties. There will be a mandatory coaches meeting on Aug. 19 at 6 p.m. at the Parks and Rec offices on Army-Navy Drive. For information, call Joe Graves at 601-634-4514.

Soccer tryouts set for Bovina

Tryouts for the 11- and 12-and-under Division I Vicksburg Soccer Organization season are scheduled for July 16 at 5 p.m. at the Bovina fields.
