Vicksburg man charged, jailed in purse-snatching|[07/09/08]

A Vicksburg man was arrested today and accused of stealing a woman’s purse after knocking her to the ground, police said.

Percy Smith, 46, 714 Cherry St., surrendered at the Vicksburg Police Department at about 7 a.m. and was charged with strong-arm robbery.

Vicksburg Police Lt. Bobby Stewart said the robbery took place July 6, outside Horizon Casino, 1310 Mulberry St. He also noted that the stolen purse has not been recovered yet.

Smith’s bond was set at $2,500 and he remained in the Issaquena County Jail this morning.

Power tools missing from home on Court

Power tools were reported stolen from a home on Court Street Tuesday, Vicksburg Police said.

Missing from the home in the 1600 block of the street was a Skihl reciprocating saw valued at $165 and two Craftsman drills, each valued at $87.

Police received the report at 1:55 p.m.
