Two Ole Miss players and one Mississippi State standout on Monday earned first-team preseason All-Southeastern Conference honors as chosen by the league’s coaches.
SEC media days begin on Wednesday in Birmingham, Ala., and the media’s all-SEC team will be released on Wednesday afternoon.
Offensive lineman Michael Oher of Ole Miss was the lone state player to make the first team offense, while Ole Miss defensive lineman Greg Hardy and Mississippi State defensive back Derek Pegues each earned first-team defensive honors.
LSU led all teams with 14 players selected among the three preseason squads, while Florida was the only other team with double-figure selections with 10.
Oher, a senior offensive tackle, and Hardy, a junior defensive end, were two of six league players to be unanimously selected to the first team. Both players received All-SEC first team honors from the coaches at the conclusion of last season.
League coaches tabbed senior defensive tackle Peria Jerry to the second team defense, while his brother, junior offensive tackle John Jerry, was selected to the third team offense.
For Mississippi State, running back Anthony Dixon and linebacker Jamar Chaney made the second team, and offensive lineman Anthony Strauder earned second-team honors.
