Bond raised for Vicksburg man accused in AC, copper thefts|[07/29/08]

The bond of a Vicksburg man, arrested Monday morning by police and accused of stripping air conditioners of their copper, has been raised.

Kenneth Ross, 21, 704 Lee St., was in the Warren County Jail this morning on a $30,000 bond, up from $5,000.

Ross is charged with grand larceny. The thefts Ross is accused of:

A 4-ton, outside air conditioner unit valued at $6,000 and a 3-ton air conditioner unit valued at $5,500 were reported missing Monday morning from homes in the 1100 block of Avenue D.

A 5-ton unit, no value given, was reported missing from the 3300 block of Oak Street.

Two 5-ton units valued at $5,000 each were reported missing from a business in the 2900 block of Washington Street.

All units were recovered but damaged, police said.

Drug, violence arrests land two in jail

In arrests in Vicksburg and Warren County Monday:

William Hodge, 26, 1983 Mississippi 3, No. 18, was arrested by Warren County Sheriff’s deputies at 9:40 a.m. and charged with possession of precursor chemicals and possession of a controlled substance. He was in the Warren County Jail this morning with no bond set.

Willie Harris, 21, 926 Meadow St., was arrested at 2:40 p.m. by Vicksburg Police and charged with fourth offense domestic violence. He was in jail this morning, and bond was set at $10,000.

Copper wire, electronics among missing items

In items reported stolen in Vicksburg and Warren County Monday:

At 6:21 p.m., copper from the ceiling of a storage unit was reported missing from a home in the 3900 block of Mississippi 27.

At 12:06 p.m., a Pioneer CD AM/FM stereo valued at $1,000 and two speakers valued at $200 were reported stolen from a home in the 3200 block of Highland Drive.

At 1:20 p.m., a RadioShack 40-watt, 3-band PA system valued at $250, a cordless phone valued at $90 and a Carrier AC unit valued at $450 were reported stolen from the City of Vicksburg concession stand at Martin Luther King Boulevard and Mission 66.

Six treated, released after two car wreck

Six people were treated and released from River Region Medical Center after car wrecks Monday.

At 11:35 a.m., a two-car accident was reported at Fisher Ferry Road and Grange Hall Road. The drivers were Jimmie Thornton, 45, 581 Stenson Road Lot 8, and Agnes Hutchins, 78, 1342 Cayuga Road, Utica.

At 6:34 p.m., a two-car accident was reported at Mississippi 27 and China Grove Road. In the car with driver Brittany Erves, 3120 Bovina Cutoff Road, were Danielle Washington, 16, 3182 Bovina Cutoff Road, and Allison Stelle, 6, 3120 Bovina Cutoff Road. Jeanette Luther, 37, 8143 Curtis Luster Road, Utica, was traveling alone.

Toddler hit by car treated, released

A 2-year-old hit by a car Monday afternoon has been treated and released from River Region Medical Center, said hospital spokesman Allen Karel.

A motorist driving a Chevrolet Impala in the parking lot of Confederate Ridge Apartments bumped the child as the youngster was walking a bike across the road, said Vicksburg Police Sgt. Jackie Johnson.
