From staff reports

The Vicksburg Braves are still a young team, but this Governor’s Cup thing is old hat.

The Braves scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning Sunday to beat the PSA Titans, 11-9, and win their second straight Governor’s Cup championship. The Braves, a 7-year-olds’ tournament team, won the 6-year-olds’ title last year and have not lost a game in either Cup appearance.

The Braves were led this time by a slew of strong offensive performances. Sean Daily and Christian Oakes both went 8-for-13 in three games Sunday, Sean Dixon was 7-for-13 and Kyle Guider went 5-for-10. Vicksburg outscored its opponents 53-15 in five Cup games, and held all but the Titans to three runs or less.

The Cup title also capped a great summer for the Braves. They finished second in tournaments in Starkville and Clinton, third in the USSSA state tournament, and played in the USSSA World Series.
