Janice Marie Robinson Edwards

Services for Janice Marie “Rea” Robinson Edwards will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Greater Grove Street M.B. Church with the Rev. Henry Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon until 7 p.m. Friday at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home with family present from 6 until 7.

Mrs. Edwards died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2008, at River Region Medical Center. She was 50.

Mrs. Edwards was preceded in death by her father, Columbus Palmer; and her maternal grandmother, Lelia A. Robinson.

She is survived by her husband, Bruce Edwards; a daughter, Wanda Latoya Groves of Vicksburg; two sons, Justin Earl Robinson of Ocean Springs and William Shelby of Vicksburg; her mother, Gloria Jean Rankin of Vicksburg; her stepfathers, Jessie Cooper and Willie Rankin, both of Vicksburg; nine sisters, Debra Robinson Goodman, Jacqueline Cooper, Andrea Royal, Dawn Royal, Kenya Cooper and Catrina Cooper, all of Vicksburg, and Sharon Robinson Young, Gloria Cooper and Robin Royal, all of Jackson; three brothers, Gerald Royal and Cedric Cooper, both of Vicksburg, and Robert Royal of Jackson; nine grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Hazel Dacus Feder

Hazel Dacus Feder died Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2008, at Heritage House Nursing Home in Vicksburg. She was 79 years old.

She was born March 27, 1929, in Dardanelle, Ark., and grew up in Transylvania, La. After graduating from high school, she attended Vicksburg School of Nursing, where she received a registered nurse degree. She retired as a nurse from the Kuhn Memorial State Hospital, where she was a nursing supervisor.

She was a member of the Vicksburg Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Bessie Davis; and three sisters, Wilma Dacus, Delora Grace and Delena Gilbreath.

She is survived by two sons, Ron Feder and his wife, Becky, of Ocean Springs and David Feder and his wife, Virginia, of Utica; one daughter, Deborah Ramsey and her husband, Robert, of Vicksburg; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Feder-Hosey, Sam Feder, Sadie Ramsey and Anna Ramsey; two brothers, Holman Dacus of Transylvania and Amon Dacus of Conroe, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon until the hour of the service at Glenwood Funeral Home.

A special thanks goes out to the staff of Heritage House for their professional and compassionate care during Mrs. Feder’s illness.

Patrick Hynum

PORT GIBSON – Services for Patrick “P.W.” Hynum will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Glenwood Funeral Home in Port Gibson with the Rev. Gage Hynum officiating. Burial will follow at Wintergreen Cemetery in Port Gibson. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mr. Hynum died Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2008, at his home. He was 79.

Mr. Hynum was a Pattison native and had lived in Port Gibson for a number of years. He retired after 40 years of service as a machinist with American Paper Tube in Port Gibson. He was a member of Beech Grove Baptist Church of Pattison and sang with the Hynum Gospel Singers for more than 30 years.

He was preceded in death by a wife, Ruby Hynum; his father, Lura Hynum; his mother, Oma Hynum; five brothers; and one sister.

Survivors include his wife, Emily Jo Hynum; two daughters, Paula Jones and Patricia Bryant, both of Vicksburg; two sons, Donald Hynum of Port Gibson and Michael Hynum of Vicksburg; one stepson, Rodney Walters of Eagle Lake; and seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Julia M. Johnson

PORT GIBSON – Julia M. Johnson died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2008, at Claiborne County Hospital. She was 87.

Mrs. Johnson was a member and mother at Awesome Christ Warrior Outreach Tabernacle.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Isaac Johnson; her parents, Isom and Georgia Glasco Washington; and a son, Isaac Johnson Jr.

She is survived by seven sons, Elvin L. Johnson, Ulessiah Johnson and Charlie E. Johnson, all of Jackson, the Rev. Hugh Johnson and Coney Johnson, both of Port Gibson, Edward Johnson of Chicago and Tommy Johnson of Grambling, La.; four daughters, Frances R. Allen of Chicago, Georgia A. Wilson of Washington, D.C., and Linda R. Johnson and Geraldine Johnson, both of Port Gibson; one brother, Samuel Harris of Chicago; two sisters, Essie Willis of Atlanta and Gladys Buie of Greenwood; three stepchildren, Howard L. Johnson and James H. Devine, both of Diamond Grove, Ill., and Minnie L. Broadway of Champaign, Ill.; 31 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Awesome Christ Warrior Outreach Tabernacle with the Rev. Chester A. Watts Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at Forrest Grove Christian Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. Friday at Thompson Funeral Home of Port Gibson and Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until the service.

James Watkins

James Watkins died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2008, at Covenant Health and Rehab of Vicksburg. He was 102.

Born in Bovina, Mr. Watkins lived in Vicksburg most of his life. He was a farmer and a member of Christian Home M.B. Church No. 2.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Davenport Watkins; a son, Dan Moore; and his caregiver, Geraldine Larry.

He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Estella Moore of Aurora, Ill.; and grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other relatives.

Marie Williams

HARRISTON – Marie Williams died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2008, at Natchez Community Hospital. She was 72.

Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Alice Porter Harris; and two brothers, James Harris and the Rev. Elbert Harris.

Survivors include two sons, Matthew Patton of Nashville, Tenn., and Anthony Patton of Atlanta; a daughter, Alice Patton of Atlanta; four brothers, John Harris and Edwin Harris, both of Harriston, Alvin Harris of Chicago and Charles Harris of New Orleans; one sister, Alicia Harris of Harriston; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Fayette with the Rev. Michael Buckman officiating. Burial will follow at St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery in Harriston under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home of Port Gibson. Visitation will be at the church Saturday from 9 until 10:30 a.m. with rosary from 10:30 until the service.
