Accused car thief leaves hospital, goes to jail|[08/15/2008]

A Fayette man accused of stealing a car at a Vicksburg gas station on Aug. 6 and later that day wrecked it on U.S. 61 South, was released from the University Medical Center in Jackson Thursday and taken into custody by Vicksburg police.

Bobby Lee Lester, 34, 15 Green Pasture Road, was placed in the Warren County Jail Thursday, said Vicksburg Police Lt. Bobby Stewart, and later was released on a $2,000 bond. Stewart said Lester is accused of taking a 1994 Chevrolet Caprice from the Shell gas station at 4747 U.S. 61 and almost immediately was involved in a one-vehicle wreck on the highway a mile south of the Big Black River. Lester suffered severe injuries to one of his arms, said Stewart.

He initially was taken to River Region Medical Center and later transferred to UMC.

Baton Rouge man held on drug charge

A Baton Rouge man was in the Warren County Jail this morning awaiting the setting of bond on a delivery of a controlled substance charge.

Jerry Wiggins, 33, 14622 Central Woods Ave., Apt. 6, was arrested by Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics agents Thursday afternoon.

County man held on larceny charges

A Warren County man’s arrest on larceny charges Thursday led to the recovery of a bass boat reported stolen Wednesday from the 2500 block of Culkin Road, said Sheriff Martin Pace.

Patyon Lipe, 27, 4618 Nailor Road, was arrested following a traffic stop near Halls Ferry Road and Interstate 20 around 9:30 a.m. He was taken to the Warren County Jail, and later was released on a $1,500 bond.

The boat was recovered in Claiborne County around noon and returned to its owner, said Pace.

Drugs, earrings missing from home on Cherry

A residential burglary in the 2400 block of Cherry Street was reported to Vicksburg Police at 4:45 this morning.

Reported missing were a pair of white, gold and diamond earrings valued at $1,000 and 30 Xanax and 30 Lorcet prescription pills.

Cash missing from car on Roy Young Road

An auto burglary was reported to the Warren County Sheriff’s Department at 2:58 this morning in the 40 block of Roy Young Road.

Reported missing was $50.

County man at UMC following logging accident

A Warren County man was in critical condition at the University Medical Center in Jackson this morning following a logging accident Thursday, said Sheriff Martin Pace.

George Leach, 10253 Oak Ridge Road, was taken to River Region Medical Center after being struck in the head near the Oak Ridge community, said Pace, and later transferred to UMC.
