From staff reports
Warren County Coroner Doug Huskey said this morning an autopsy will likely be performed today at the Mississippi Crime Lab in Jackson on the body of Solomon “Dewey” Harris, who died early Monday morning at River Region Medical Center.
Since Dr. Steven Hayne, a private pathologist who has performed post mortem examinations in Mississippi for more than 10 years, was dismissed from duties about two weeks ago, Huskey said, doctors have been traveling to Jackson from Nashville a week at a time to perform autopsies at the crime lab. Harris’ autopsy was not performed Monday due to the weekly change in examiners, Huskey said.
Harris, who was set to go to trial on a murder charge on Dec. 1, had been at River Region for a week due to illness Huskey said appeared to be caused by an allergic reaction to medication. If that’s the case, Huskey said the final results of Harris’ autopsy could possibly take weeks pending toxicology reports.
