Rev. Carl S. Barnes Sr.

The Rev. Carl S. Barnes Sr. died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2008, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. He was 82.

A native of Benton, La., Rev. Barnes had lived in Vicksburg for the past 28 years. He graduated from Mississippi College. He had ministered for a number of years at various churches throughout the state. He retired from Bovina Baptist Church. He was a member of Deer Creek Baptist Church in Rolling Fork, where he also served as pastor.

Survivors include his wife, Ellene E. Barnes of Vicksburg; two sons, Steve Barnes of Vicksburg and Mark Barnes of El Dorado, Ark.; one daughter, Sherry Mahaffey of Mendenhall; two brothers, Melvin Barnes of Texarkana, Texas, and Johnny Barnes of Benton, La.; one sister, Mary Harris of Sulphur Springs, Texas; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Woodlawn Baptist Church with the Revs. Clyde Williams and Gary Courtney officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at Glenwood Funeral Home.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
