Alexandria, MC win at St. Al meet

Madison Central won all three relay events, and added first-place performances from Haley Goertz in the 500-yard freestyle and Natalie Tatum in the 100-yard backstroke, to cruise to the girls team championship Saturday at the St. Aloysius Invitational swim meet at City Pool.

Madison totaled 127 points, well ahead of second-place Oak Grove’s 72. Brandon was third with 68 points. St. Aloysius tied for eighth with Cleveland, with 21 points apiece, and Warren Central was 12th.

Rachel Clarke’s fifth-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke was the best among Warren County swimmers. Warren Central’s Tiffany Miller was seventh in the 100 butterfly and eighth in the 200-yard individual medley.

In the boys’ meet, Alexandria’s Oscar Oliver easily won the 50- and 100-yard freestyle to lead the Trojans to the team title over Madison Central 117-96. St. Al finished eighth, with 26 points, and Warren Central was 10th with 13 1/2.

WC’s Matt Shoenberger was the top Warren County finisher, placing fifth in the 50-yard freestyle. St. Al’s Wally Wibowo was sixth in the 100-yard breaststroke.
