WC’s Collins has strong run at Ridgeland meet

Warren Central’s Condrea Collins enjoyed another strong run Saturday at the Ridgeland High Titan Invitational.

Collins, who won the Clinton Invitational in August, finished fifth out of 125 runners to lead the Lady Vikes to a sixth-place finish in the Class 4A-5A team standings. WC totaled 152 points. Ruston, out of Louisiana, won the meet with 28 points.

WC had three other runners in the top 40, led by Shannon Richter’s 31st-place effort. Hannah Register was 34th, and Julie Waddle was 39th. Collins was the only runner from a school other than Pearl or Ruston to place in the top nine. She finished the 4-kilometer race in 16 minutes, 41.50 seconds, well ahead of Ruston’s Carrie Lantrip, who was sixth with a time of 17:00.55.

St. Aloysius’ Kay Kay DeRossette finished 25th in the Class 1A-2A-3A meet, followed closely by Anna Haygood and Ann Ferrell Cauthen in 27th and 28th, respectively. St. Al did not have enough runners to qualify for the team standings. J.Z. George won the team title.

In the boys’ Class 1A-2A-3A meet, St. Al’s John Ingram finished 13th, with a time of 19:55.10, to help the Flashes to a fourth-place team finish. Chris Ingram was 20th and Blake Haygood 32nd for St. Al, which totaled 117 points. St. Andrew’s edged J.Z. George for the first-place trophy, 29-32, while Carthage was a distant third with 104 points.

WC’s Walter King was the top Warren County runner in the Class 4A-5A meet. He placed 24th. Vicksburg’s Caleb White finished 45th, as WC and VHS finished 10th and 11th, respectively, in the team standings.
