A former Merchants Bank branch building at 2309 Clay St., long empty, has sold to a pair of investors, according to closing real estate documents.
Mission 66 Partners Inc. purchased the 2,200-square-foot structure from an ownership group led by Robert Abraham.
Plans for the building at Clay’s intersection with Mission 66 have not been confirmed. Listed as part of the new ownership are Abdul Hafedh Muqbil and Ahmed Ali Shaibi. Neither could be reached.
Vacant for nearly a decade, the building was leased by the now-defunct Vicksburg-based bank. In 1998, it and four other Merchants properties were purchased by Tupelo-based BancorpSouth for $222 million in assets.
Its sale price was not listed by Jones & Upchurch Inc. Real Estate Agency. Its location at one of Vicksburg’s busiest intersections is on prime real estate in the older section of Vicksburg’s commercial strips. The other three corners at the intersection are occupied by a McDonald’s, a Rite Aid pharmacy and an Exxon gas station and convenience store.
